The proposal of microinjection molding originated in 1985, and microinjection molding (also known as micromolding) is used for the production of products with overall dimensions, or functional areas of features, or tolerance requirements measured in millimeters or even micrometers. With the rapid development of high-tech and precision technologies, there is a rapidly growing demand for micro-injection molded products in areas such as optical communications, computer data storage, medical technology, biotechnology, sensors and actuators, micro-optics, electronics and consumer products, as well as equipment manufacturing and mechanical engineering. Typical examples include: watch and camera components, automotive impact, acceleration and distance sensors, hard disk and CD-ROM drive read/write heads, medical sensors, miniature pumps, small spools of wire, high-precision gears, pulleys and helicoidal tubes, fiber-optic switches and connectors, micromotors, surgical instrumentation, and communications products. Because of the miniature characteristics of the products, so special molding machinery and auxiliary equipment to complete a variety of production operations, such as: injection volume control, mold evacuation (vacuum), injection process, product ejection, separation, inspection, storage, positioning and packaging. In addition, mold inserts and cavity manufacturing also require special techniques. Classification of Microinjection Molding Although the methods of microinjection molding have not been clearly defined to date, it is generally accepted that processes applied to the production of the following three types of products or components can be called microinjection molding. Microinjection molded products that weigh a few micrograms to a fraction of a gram and may be in the micron (mm) size range, such as micro gears, micro joysticks, and so on.
