What are the issues related to medical safety
Human life is only once, so the most precious is life. Patients trust doctors with their lives, therefore, as medical workers, we must rise from the traditional, simple, and primary concept of "saving lives and helping injuries" to the concept of reflecting all-round medical quality in the whole medical activities. Reviewing and summarizing the problems that occurred in clinical anesthesia work in the past, in addition to real anesthesia accidents, low professional level of grass-roots anesthesiologists, poor technical skills, or aging and obsolete equipments and instruments, a considerable portion of the problems were caused by the anesthesiologists' weak sense of responsibility, hasty management, non-standardized operation, and various kinds of blunders. Therefore, effective anesthesia quality supervision and all-round anesthesia management are of utmost importance, which not only requires a set of effective quality management system to discipline, but also requires at least a basic code of social medical ethics. Through the quality management of anesthesia, the weak links in the work can be improved continuously, especially the most basic but very important problems in anesthesia work, such as whether the anesthesia machine, anesthesia equipment (mask, laryngoscope, tracheal tube, oropharyngeal airway, etc.), suction machine and suction tube are well prepared and used before induction of general anesthesia and whether they are placed next to the patient, whether the resuscitation supplies are available at any time, whether the names of various drugs are clearly labeled on syringes and infusion bottles, and whether the name of the drugs are clearly labeled on syringes and infusion bottles. Are the names of various drugs in syringes and infusion bottles clearly labeled, and are the vital signs monitors well connected? In addition, if the patient is in an abnormal situation, whether the anesthesiologist has the ability to respond and the measures to correctly judge and deal with the problem. All these are directly related to the quality and effect of anesthesia and patient safety. In conclusion, quality management of anesthesia is mainly to supervise the work of anesthesiologists, including induction of anesthesia, maintenance of anesthesia, administration of anesthesia, the end of anesthesia, and the whole process of patients' recovery, and to strive to achieve the satisfaction of the patients, their families, the surgeons, and the anesthesiologists themselves. Clinical anesthesia is a high-risk specialty in clinical medicine, and its anesthesia quality is the prerequisite for medical safety, while medical quality is the lifeline of hospitals, and it is also an issue of concern to the government, medical institutions, the public, and especially to patients and their families. Since the quality of anesthesia is difficult to define, its quality management is also difficult to express clearly in one sentence, because the quality of anesthesia does not have simple and clear quality markers and standards like general commodities, and even compared with the quality of medical care in other clinical specialties, it also has its own hidden characteristics.
