Tyco's Corporate History

Tyco (NYSE: TYC) is one of the world's largest fire and security franchise companies. Founded in 1960, Tyco's U.S. headquarters are in Princeton, New Jersey; its corporate headquarters are in Schaffhausen, Switzerland.

Tyco's business units are located in more than 1,000 locations in nearly 50 countries and include research and development laboratories, manufacturing facilities, service and distribution centers, monitoring centers and sales offices that provide industry- and region-specific fire and security solutions to customers worldwide.

In 2006, Tyco's Board of Directors approved the spin-off of the company into three separate, publicly traded companies: Tyco and Tyco Healthcare (now known as Covidien), and Tyco Electronics (now known as TE Connectivity).

In late 2011, Tyco International announced that it was splitting the company into three separate publicly traded companies: Tyco, the largest of the three spun-off businesses and a global leader in fire and security, ADT North America residential, which operates independently, and Fluid Control, which operates independently.

On October 1, 2012, Tyco became one of the world's largest fire and security franchises, with operations in installation and service, fire protection products, safety equipment, and life safety products.
