Microwave photonics research group is the core part of "Key Laboratory of Radar Imaging and Microwave Photonics Technology of Ministry of Education". Based on the intersection of microwave and optics, this paper studies the new mechanism and method of microwave/millimeter wave /THz signal generation, transmission, processing, control and measurement, breaks through the key bottlenecks of traditional microwave technology in bandwidth, loss and electromagnetic interference, forms innovative applications in aviation, aerospace and national defense, and forms four research directions, namely, microwave photon imaging radar, high-precision microwave photon measurement, intelligent optical wireless communication and integrated microwave photon chip.

Dr Vincent J. Urick Jr joined the United States Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) in 20001year, and he presided over the research work of the applied RF photonics department in the laboratory. Dr Jason McKinney joined NRL in 2006. At present, he is responsible for the research work of microwave photonics department in the laboratory. Before joining NRL, he began to study microwave photonics as a major member at Purdue University as early as 200 1. Dr. Keith J.
