What nickel is mainly used for

Nickel is mainly used in alloys (formulations) and as a catalyst.

Nickel, a hard, ductile and ferromagnetic metal, is highly abrasive and corrosion resistant. Nickel is a ferrophilic element. The earth's core is mainly composed of the elements iron and nickel. In the earth's crust ferromagnesian rocks contain more nickel than silica-aluminum rocks, for example, peridotite contains 1,000 times as much nickel as granite, and gabbro contains 80 times as much nickel as granite.

Mainly used in alloys (formulations) and as a catalyst (such as Lane nickel, especially as a catalyst for hydrogenation), can be used to make currency, etc., plated on other metals can prevent rust. Mainly used in the manufacture of stainless steel and other corrosion-resistant alloys, such as nickel steel, nickel-chromium steel and a variety of non-ferrous metal alloys, copper-nickel alloys containing nickel composition is higher, it is not easy to corrode. Also for hydrogenation catalysts and for ceramic products, special chemical ware, electronic circuits, glass with green and nickel compounds prepared.

Nickel preparation method

1, electrolysis. Will be enriched sulfide ore roasted into oxide, carbon reduction into crude nickel, and then by electrolysis to pure nickel metal.

2, carbonylation method. Nickel sulfide ore and carbon monoxide to generate tetracarbonyl nickel, heated to decomposition, and then get a very high purity of nickel metal.

3, hydrogen reduction method. With hydrogen reduction of nickel oxide, nickel metal can be obtained.

4, in the blast furnace mixed with oxygen to replace sulfur, heating nickel ore can get nickel oxide. And this kind of oxide and then and iron reaction of the acid liquid can get nickel metal.

5, the ore calcined into oxide, and then with water gas or carbon reduction to get nickel. This process makes full use of the valuable components in the ore, realizing the effective use of resources.
