Nanchang County was set up in the sixth year of Gaozu's reign in the Western Han Dynasty (201 B.C.E.) (another saying: Nanchang County was first set up in the fifth year of Gaozu's reign). At that time, Zhao Tuo, the king of South Vietnam, occupied Xiguang and spied on the Central Plains.
