Mazda said on June 4, 2015, that the recall of Mazda vehicles worldwide is expected to reach 2.03 million vehicles because of defective airbags made by Takata. Takata decided in May to expand its recall of defective airbags at the request of the U.S. government, and the number of cars recalled increased dramatically.

Mazda announced on April 4 that it would recall about 470,000 vehicles in the U.S. for the 2003-2008 model year of the Mazda6, including the previously announced recall.
