China Overseas Construction & Engineering Company Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of China State Construction Engineering Corporation, was incorporated in Hong Kong in 1979 with an office building in Fung Lok Mansion, Sheung Wan.
The construction of the first phase of the Hong Lok Yuen private villa project was the company's first project in Hong Kong.
In 1981, the company successfully applied for five top-level construction licenses, creating the conditions for bidding for large-scale government projects.
In addition to the first project undertaken by the Housing Department - Tai Wo Hau Tsuen Phase II, the company also participated in the first batch of Private Sector Participation Scheme (PSPS) of the Hong Kong Housing Department and successfully won the contract for the construction of Hoi Fook Garden in Tai Wai.
In civil engineering, the company undertook the Muk Wu - Tai Lam Chung water pipeline project of the Works Bureau as a joint venture. The completion of the pipeline has solved 70% of the water supply problems for Hong Kong residents, and the Water Supplies Department of the Hong Kong Government presented the Company with a banner with the word "reputable".
The company was established in the early days, people and places, management and operation can not adapt to the construction market in Hong Kong, the period is mainly for the exploration stage. Within seven years, the company contracted 25 housing projects with a total contract value of HK$1.49 billion and 14 civil engineering projects with a total contract value of HK$790 million. With the deepening of China's reform and opening up and the recovery of Hong Kong's real estate and construction market, the company's scale of operation gradually expanded, management and operation is also becoming more scientific, turnover, turnover continues to expand, profit increased year by year, the operating strength of the significant increase in the period for the stage of development and growth.
In 1986, China State Construction Engineering Corporation (Hong Kong) changed its name to China State Construction Engineering Corporation (Hong Kong) along with China State Construction Corporation.
At this stage, the housing engineering business not only undertook HD projects, but also actively expanded the Hong Kong Architectural Services Department (ArchSD) projects, and was awarded contracts for government indoor games halls, hospital extensions, and government offices, among others. At the same time, the Group also made a breakthrough in the development of private sector projects by securing contracts for Harbour Garden and Nanyang Hotel after Tuen Mun Town Plaza, and achieved good operating results.
The civil engineering business has further diversified from the single project owner, the Territory Development Department, to the Civil Engineering Department and the Water Supplies Department; and the types of projects have expanded from general roads, drainage, mountain reclamation and reclamation, to complex projects such as airport aprons, bridges, landfills, sewage treatment plants, etc.
The Company has also been involved in a number of private sector projects, such as the Hong Kong International Airport, the Hong Kong International Airport, the Hong Kong International Airport and the Hong Kong International Airport.
The Company has been awarded Best Contractor by the Hong Kong Housing Authority for four consecutive years since 1992, making it the only overseas contractor in Hong Kong to receive this honor. Early in 1995, the company joined hands with the British, Japanese and Hong Kong construction consortiums to form the BCJ consortium to win the Hong Kong International Airport Passenger Terminal project contract, the total contract amounted to more than 10.1 billion Hong Kong dollars. The contract was the largest single contract ever awarded in Hong Kong and the largest of its kind in the world, attracting worldwide attention.
The Company successfully bid for the Hong Kong New Airport Core Project in conjunction with a number of international builders. The Company also set up a piling team and secured a large diameter piling contract for the North Lantau Expressway Project, as well as a joint venture with a Japanese builder for the China Light & Power natural gas-fired power plant contract.
During this period, the company actively explored the package contracting method of "design, electrical and mechanical installation and civil construction", which broke the old mode of civil construction only, and successfully obtained the package contract for the construction and design of the Hong Kong Architectural Services Department's Disciplined Services Quarters in Ngau Chi Wan. At the end of 1996, we were awarded the contracts for the Hong Kong Heritage Museum and the Sheung Shui Slaughterhouse by the Architectural Services Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. The latter was the most advanced and large-scale slaughterhouse in Asia at that time, with new equipment and high technological requirements, all of which were world-class.
Entering the new millennium, the company continued to make breakthroughs in "high, sophisticated and top-notch" projects, with the Hong Kong Architectural Services Department (ArchSD) and public sector projects becoming new growth areas. Newly undertaken large-scale public **** and housing projects include Lai King Hospital, Kowloon Hospital Redevelopment Phase I, Police Headquarters Phase III and Tai Po Science Park. During this period, with the commencement of the North-west Railway and Tseung Kwan O Extension projects, the Company undertook a number of larger-scale civil engineering projects, such as the MTR stations and East Rail projects, to expand its business into new areas of railroad infrastructure projects.
In 2001 and 2002, the Company successfully won the HK$3.46 billion Penny's Bay Infrastructure Contracts I and II awarded by the Civil Engineering Department, together with the HK$1.34 billion Jordan Valley Infrastructure Contract and the HK$963 million Ting Kau to Sham Tseng Section of Castle Peak Road during the same period, which were further steps forward in the expansion of the civil engineering business.
In the housing sector, in 2003, the Company was awarded the three most important projects in Disneyland - the iconic Fantasyland, the highly technologically advanced Space Mountain and the luxury six-star hotel - demonstrating China State Construction's strong professional strength and rich experience in international large-scale projects.
In 2005, the parent company, China Overseas Group, reorganized its business structure and China State Construction International Group Limited, the flagship of the Group's construction business, was successfully listed on the Main Board of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange by way of introduction. The reorganization and listing arrangement not only strengthened the platform for the development of China State Construction under independent and professional management, but also enabled China State Construction to improve its cost structure and enhance the efficiency of fund raising. The successful listing also confirmed China State Construction's position as the largest construction company in Hong Kong. There is no doubt that this market dominance will continue for many years to come.
