The Story
During the Warring States period, all the vassal states were at war with each other, and the common people could not live in peace, and if natural disasters were added to it, the common people could not live. This year, Qi was in a severe drought, and it didn't rain for 3 months. The fields were dry and cracked, the crops were all dead, and the poor people ate all the leaves and bark, and ate all the grass seedlings and roots, and they were all starving to death. But the rich man's house is full of granaries, and they continue to eat and drink.
There was a rich man named Qian Ao, who gloated over the starvation of the poor. He wanted to take out some food for the victims to eat, but also put on a savior's frame, he put the good nest on the side of the road, alms to the passing of the starving people. Whenever a hungry person came by, Qian Ao threw over a dumpling and arrogantly shouted, "Barker, here you go!" Sometimes, when a group of people come over, Qian Ao will throw out several nests for the hungry people to fight each other, and Qian Ao will look at them ridiculously from the sidelines, very happy, and feel that he is really a living God of great kindness and benevolence.
At this time, there is a skinny and bony hungry people came over, only to see his head full of messy hair, ragged clothes, will be a pair of tattered shoes with a straw rope tied to the feet, he used the old sleeve to cover the face, while staggering steps, because a few days without food, he has not been able to support their own bodies, walking a little lopsided.
Qian Ao saw the starving man's appearance, so he took two dumplings, and a bowl of soup, and yelled at the starving man, "Hey, come and eat!" The starving man ignored him as if he didn't hear him. Qian Bo called out again, "Contempt (jiē), do you hear me? Here's food for you!" Only to see that the hungry man suddenly perked up in spirit, looked at Qian Ao with wide eyes and said, "Put away your stuff, I'd rather starve to death than eat such contemptuous food!"
Qian Ao never expected, starving so staggering starvation still maintains its own dignity, suddenly full of shame, momentarily speechless.
