After more than fifty years of development, Laiwu Maternal and Child Health Hospital has developed into the city's only municipal health care institution integrating medical treatment, prevention, health care, scientific research, teaching, eugenics and reproductive health care, and it is a collaborative hospital of the First Hospital of Peking University, a teaching base of Taishan Medical College, a designated hospital of general medical care for urban workers, a designated hospital of China Life Insurance Co. It is the designated hospital for urban workers' general medical treatment, the designated hospital for China Life Insurance Company Limited Laiwu Branch, the designated preferential hospital for members of Laiwu Daily Newspaper, the city's maternal and child health care business guidance center and technical training center, the Laiwu Ultrasound Consultation Center of Ultrasound Society of Shandong Province, the city's family planning technical guidance center, the city's minimally invasive gynecological surgery center, the city's newborn disease screening center, the city's neonatal hearing screening center, and the health check center. It covers an area of 56 mu, with a building area of 38,000 square meters, including 20,000 square meters of business premises, and fixed assets of 70 million yuan. There are 328 employees, including 278 technical personnel, 2 postgraduates, 36 with technical titles above deputy level and 126 with intermediate level titles; there are 40 clinical and medical departments, 8 wards and 300 beds in the hospital. It has the most advanced DR imported from Germany, W-450 CT machine from Japan, Hitachi TU-41 X-ray machine, Toshiba 6000 and HP 5500 D ultrasound from the United States, 120 sets of large-scale medical equipments over RMB 10,000, such as laparoscopes imported from Germany, molybdenum and palladium X-ray machine from the United States, automatic biochemistry analyzers, electronic gastroscopes and enteroscopes from Japan, as well as guardianship equipments; In 2006, the Philips high-resolution sharp image ultrasound diagnostic system was newly introduced. This has greatly improved the diagnostic efficiency and accuracy of diagnosis of multiple diseases in multiple disciplines such as maternity, obstetrics, pediatrics, internal medicine and surgery. In 2005, the hospital had 130,000 outpatient visits, 10,000 discharged patients, and delivered about 5,000 babies.
