◆ Architecture

Architecture is a comprehensive discipline that involves the fields of science, engineering, literature and art, and is characterized by the combination of science and art, science and technology, and humanities. Under the guidance of the theories of "architecture in the broad sense" and "habitat science", the School of Architecture inherits and carries forward the fine tradition of Tsinghua University's architectural education, and establishes a new period of running the school's ideology of "based on the habitat environment - exploring China's characteristics - among the world's first-class". "Habitat Science" is the foundation of the Architecture program, and the core of "Habitat Science" is architecture, planning, landscape, science and technology, and its expanded fields are architecture, urban and rural planning and regional studies, landscape and ecological green space, building science and engineering. "Based on China, looking at the world, focusing on the needs of national construction and the world's forefront of the development of disciplines" is the purpose of the architecture program, throughout the College of Architecture's disciplinary development, personnel training, faculty echelon, and the construction of the curriculum system and other aspects. The curriculum of the Architecture program highlights the combination of theory and practice, the course content closely combines the discipline theory and the frontier of national construction, emphasizes the balance of the knowledge structure, and establishes seven series of course groups with architectural design as the main theme, namely: architectural design series courses, architectural design and theory series courses, urban planning and theory series courses, architectural history and theory series courses, landscape planning and theory series courses, Architectural Technology Series Courses and Architectural Art Series Courses. Meanwhile, 11 professional practice courses are also set up. The teaching objectives of the Architecture program are: to impart professional knowledge and design skills in architecture, to cultivate and improve students' creativity and ability to solve complex problems in an integrated manner, to lay down a reasonable and systematic professional knowledge structure for students, and to expand students' academic horizons.

The undergraduate program of Architecture has two types of academic systems: 5-year and 4-year, with 5-year graduation for Bachelor of Architecture and 4-year graduation for Bachelor of Engineering, and some outstanding students are exempted from the examination and admitted to the doctoral or master's degree program. Some students with excellent grades are exempted from the examination and admitted to the doctoral or master's degree programs, and they enter the graduate school in the fifth year or enter the graduate school in the sixth year, respectively. More than 90% of people's life is spent indoors, and the good environment of indoor environment is not only related to the health and comfort, but also closely related to the efficiency of labor and production; the indoor environment of the service of industrial production plays a vital role in guaranteeing the quality of the products and the rate of finished products. Building environment and equipment engineering is committed to solving civil, industrial production, medical, transportation, aerospace and other fields of indoor environmental problems of the discipline, for people to create a healthy and comfortable heat and humidity environment, air quality environment, sound and light environment, etc., is a comprehensive discipline related to the national economy and people's livelihood, covering health, energy, the environment and other widely concerned about the content of the people.

Architecture, civil engineering and building environmental science are the three major disciplines that support the development of the construction industry. With the development of China's construction industry, manufacturing industry and military defense, the equipment used to create the indoor environment is investing more and more, and the energy consumption to maintain the indoor environment after the completion of the building is also more and more, building energy efficiency has become one of China's three major energy-saving key direction. How to improve the quality of the indoor environment while minimizing the energy and resource consumption of the building to ensure the sustainable development of national construction and the natural environment has become a major issue for the country's development in the next 50 years. The next 20 years is the climax of China's construction industry, the demand for this profession is very strong; even after 20 years, China's urban construction has entered a period of stability, people's requirements for the built environment will continue to improve, the building facilities need to be updated and replaced, the building environment and equipment professional will still be a long period of time to maintain strong vitality.

Building environment and equipment engineering specialization has world-class faculty and teaching and research conditions, the curriculum includes building environment science, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, architecture, mechanics, computers, electricity, informatics, physiology and psychology, and many other aspects. The program focuses on practical teaching, has frequent exchanges with famous foreign universities and research institutes, and regularly exchanges students in order to cultivate students' international outlook, and is committed to the cultivation of professional talents; it has the Building Energy Efficiency Research Center of Tsinghua University and the Building Energy Efficiency Engineering Center of the Ministry of Education, which are at the world's advanced level of research on building energy efficiency and indoor air quality, and play an important role in the formulation of national building energy efficiency policies, the development of building energy efficiency technology, and the construction of major projects. The School of Architecture of Tianjin University was established in June 1997 on the basis of the former Department of Architecture. It consists of three departments, namely, Architecture, Urban Planning and Environmental Art, and four research institutes, namely, Architectural Design and Theory, Architectural History and Theory, Architectural Technology Science, and Institute of Urban Planning and Design. The college has a strong faculty with 89 teachers and staff members. Among them, there are 18 professors, 24 associate professors, 1 academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, 11 doctoral supervisors and 24 master's supervisors. The college plans to enroll 150 undergraduates each year; 80 in architecture and 50 in urban planning, all of which have a five-year course of study; and 30 in art and design, which has a four-year course of study. Architecture" is a first-level discipline approved by the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China, and the four second-level disciplines under it, including architectural design and theory, architectural history and theory, urban planning and design, and architectural technology science, have the right to confer doctoral degrees. In 1999, a postdoctoral station of architecture was set up with the approval of the state. The college has a computing center, an architectural modeling laboratory, an architectural physics laboratory and a multimedia teaching laboratory. The University Library has set up a branch library for the School of Architecture, which has a rich collection of Chinese and foreign books, periodicals and materials. The dedicated teaching building of the Architecture Hall provides a good teaching and research environment for teachers and students.
