In the healthcare SPD model, a tertiary depot is a medical low-value consumable depot (or medical high-value consumable depot). This depot is usually divided into three levels:
Tier 1 depot: the SPD service center, which is the key area for medical supplies turnover in the hospital and is responsible for receiving, storing, organizing, and distributing medical low-value supplies and medical high-value supplies.
Second-level depots: departmental depots, which are the secondary consumption points within the hospital, including clinical wards, operating rooms, supply rooms, catheterization rooms, endoscopy centers and so on. These depots are set up according to actual usage and are managed centrally by the SPD Service Center.
Third-level storehouse: a break-down storehouse for temporary placement of the second-level storehouse fixed number of packages of break-down consumables, such as diagnostic rooms, treatment trolleys and so on. This depot ensures the timely supply and use of medical low-value consumables.
By dividing the three levels of storage, the medical SPD model realizes the fine management and full tracking of medical consumables, and improves the level of supply guarantee of medical consumables and the efficiency of in-hospital logistics.
