Laboratory use of a variety of automatic testing equipment and computers and other means to realize the measurement, experimentation and data processing automation, in order to reduce the manual operation of experimental personnel, improve the efficiency of scientific research. The primary stage of laboratory automation is mainly the automatic measurement of experimental data. Modern laboratory automation has been involved in the development of research plans, research surveys, experimental equipment design and trial production, the preparation of experimental samples, the collection and organization of experimental data, the publication of research results and popularization, the construction of databases and other research and analysis activities. Therefore, laboratory automation has two meanings: narrow and broad. Laboratory automation in the narrow sense refers to the automation of the process of obtaining data through experiments, data processing and obtaining experimental results; a broad understanding of scientific experimentation, simulation, image processing, computer-aided design, automatic measurement, automatic inspection, control of experimental equipment, management of literature and patent information, a variety of databases, automatic translation, expert systems and so on. Laboratory automation system is the full use of laboratory technology resources, information resources and human intellectual resources of scientific research support system.
