Nanshan Zhong is a renowned respiratory pathologist, a leading figure in China's fight against atypical pneumonia, and one of the great medical doctors of our time.
In the extraordinary period of SARS (commonly known as "atypical pneumonia" in mainland China), Zhong Nanshan was not only at the forefront of medical treatment to save lives and help the injured, but also actively traveled to the infected areas to guide the medical work, advocating close cooperation with the International Health Organization, and was awarded the national "May 1 Award" by the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference.
Nanshan Zhong was awarded the national "May Day" Labor Medal, and at the same time was honored with a special merit by Guangdong Province, and was awarded the title of "hero of the fight against Africa" by the Guangzhou Municipal Government.
In the fight against SARS in 2003, Zhong Nanshan went to the infected area to guide the medical treatment, presided over the formulation of China's "SARS" and other acute infectious diseases diagnosis and treatment guidelines for the victory over the "SARS" epidemic made an important contribution. "On January 21, 2020, the first meeting of the new coronavirus joint prevention and control mechanism of scientific research group, Zhong Nanshan as group leader. In 1984, Zhong Nanshan was honored as one of China's first national experts with outstanding contributions.
In 1995, Zhong Nanshan was named China's national advanced worker (i.e., national model worker) and won the National May 1st Labor Medal.
In May 1996, he was elected academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.
In 2003, Zhong Nanshan was again named China's National Advanced Worker (i.e., National Labor Model) and awarded the National May 1st Labor Medal.
On June 19, 2003, Zhong Nanshan was awarded the only special merit by the Guangdong Provincial Party Committee and Provincial Government for his outstanding performance in the fight against Africa.
In 2003, Zhong Nanshan was awarded the honorary title of "anti-Africa hero" by the city of Guangzhou.
In 2004, Zhong Nanshan was honored as one of the top ten people who moved China in 2003.
On April 8, 2004, Zhong Nanshan was awarded the highest honor in China's domestic health system, the Bai Qun Medal.
On June 1, 2016, Zhong Nanshan was honored with the 11th Guanghua Engineering Science and Technology Award, the highest award in China's engineering sector.
On December 18, 2018, the Party Central Committee and the State Council awarded Zhong Nanshan the title of Reform Pioneer, awarded the Reform Pioneer Medal, and was named "an important promoter of the construction of the public **** health incident emergency response system".
On December 18, 2019, Zhong Nanshan was selected as one of the "70 Chinese returnees in 70 years" list.
