Since the PS was launched in 1994, Sony has won hundreds of millions of fans around the world. But few people realize that the console owes much of its success to this huge white building across the sea from Tokyo. In an area measuring 31.4 meters by 6 meters, 32 industrial robots are carrying on the traditional manufacturing process, with a PlayStation (PS) 4 coming off the assembly line about every thirty seconds. 32 industrial robots do most of the assembly work, with only four humans doing a small amount of the work. One of the factory's greatest achievements is the use of robots to attach wires, tapes, and other flexible parts to the consoles. 26 of the 32 robots specialize in the installation of soft parts. This mix of automation and human solutions is helping Sony get a return on its investment. The robots finish scrutinizing the PS4 before the machine moves it away. Placing the console cover is the final step in PS4 production. The machine grabs one PS4 at a time that has passed the inspection process and places it on a track, lined up and waiting to be fitted with a console cover.
In addition to the new PS5, Sony will continue to produce PS4 and PS4 Pro models, and the robots will make the process faster and more efficient.
