Statement by: Xiao Haipeng Position: The First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University of Medical Sciences

Dear members of the assessment team of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA):

My statement will be on the situation of health care protection in Guangzhou. Guangzhou has sufficient medical and health resources.

Guangzhou is a diagnosis and treatment center in South China, with a high level of public **** health. Life expectancy per capita is 76.83 years.

Guangzhou has 27 most modern hospitals and 139 general hospitals; the number of beds per 1,000 people is 5.82, and the number of health technicians per 1,000 people is 8.17, with advanced medical equipments and medical technology level.

Guangzhou has a perfect emergency network, and emergency vehicles can reach any requested location within 12 minutes.

Professionals make up Guangzhou's Disease Prevention and Control Organization, which has laboratories with advanced testing equipment and advanced testing and experimental techniques.

Guangzhou has a specialized food hygiene supervision system. Professional health supervisors monitor food, drinking water and public ****place hygiene in accordance with the law to maintain public health and safety.

In addition, Chinese traditional medicine has unique characteristics and advantages in disease control. The use of Chinese medicine, acupuncture, tuina and other non-drug therapies, together with Chinese medicine to treat orthopedic and traumatic diseases, sports injuries, tumors, endocrine diseases, heart disease, viral infectious diseases, etc. has a unique therapeutic effect.

Guangzhou will provide reliable health protection for the Asian Games.

During the Asian Games, the chief executive of the Guangzhou Municipal Government and the director of the Municipal Health Bureau will unify the leadership, command and all aspects of the municipality's health resources to provide health protection for the Asian Games, including medical treatment, emergency care, disease control, health supervision and other health protection. Foreign athletes, officials and spectators do not need to go through any administrative procedures to seek medical treatment in Guangzhou.

We will set up medical points at athletes' residences and competition venues to provide fast and convenient medical services for those in need 24 hours a day.

During the opening and closing ceremonies of the Asian Games and all major events, we will send out emergency ambulances with advanced equipment and excellent medical personnel to stand by on site to provide emergency medical services. If necessary, air rescue and sea rescue detachments can be deployed to carry out ambulance operations.

We have a sophisticated health monitoring and reporting system for infectious disease control and public **** health emergencies. During the Asian Games, special staff will be assigned to on-site health guidance and monitoring of the Games-related locations, and once problems are detected, a prompt response will be made immediately according to the plan.

In short, Guangzhou's medical and health resources are abundant, the medical and health system is sound, the equipment is advanced, technology is excellent, there is a wealth of experience in large-scale activities of medical and health protection, there is sufficient capacity for the Asian Games to provide perfect health protection.
