Why do banks need night shifts in their data centers?
The data center needs people to be on duty 24 hours a day, although the theory can be automated operation and maintenance, but in practice there are still people who have to stare at the monitoring platform to see the alarms, so the duty, especially the duty of the night shift is very hard. But it's the boys who are on night duty, and it's rare to hear of a girl who is on night duty. 7*24 hour duty posts are generally rotated throughout the entire data center by all the grassroots employees, and the newer employees may be on more duty and will be on night duty (the older employees are generally not on night duty unless they are in a special position), and of course the older employees will be on duty as well.
The duty is to stare at the monitoring platform to see the alarm, if there is a serious alarm, then the phone or WeChat notify the corresponding management personnel to deal with. So the operations and maintenance staff in the data center might be woken up by a phone call in the middle of the night, so the work in the data center is actually not easy from the on-call level.
