The construction and protection of Jinxian Gate in Jieyang

A road ringing the city was built in 1937. Although the city wall was destroyed, some ruined buildings still exist. After liberation, the county government allocated funds for repairs and restoration to its original appearance. After repair, the tower is 20 meters high, 19 meters wide, and the urn gate is 8 meters deep.

In 1985, a pair of stone lions were placed in front of the tower, surrounded by a flower garden, and a sculpture of water-spraying lotus flowers was placed nearby, which complemented the antique tower. In recent years, with government funds allocated for renovations and the planting of flowers and trees, the ancient "Qiao Lou Xiaojiao" scene has been rejuvenated and has become a good place for citizens to relax and learn about the past. Bei Wenxi, a poet from Jieyang, wrote a poem specifically praising the Jinxian Gate. The poem goes: The ancient city tower with carved beams and painted columns has gone through hundreds of vicissitudes. Dress up in a new look to welcome the prosperous times, and the lotus flowers will be more peaceful when they come out of the water.

In 1992, Jinxianmen was announced as a municipal cultural relic protection unit by the Jieyang Municipal Government. However, hundreds of years of wind and rain erosion have gradually caused this ancient city tower to lose its elegance. Ant infestations, wind damage, and long-term motor vehicle vibrations have caused the tower beams to become detached, corner pillars to rot, doors and windows to be broken, and paint to peel off. All were severely damaged. According to the appraisal of the Municipal Housing Authority, Jinxianmen has become a dangerous building and is in danger of collapse at any time. Just after the Spring Festival this year, the renovation of Jinxian Gate began. Lin Wuyuan, director of the Jieyang Municipal Museum who is responsible for this renovation work, told reporters: "This is the largest renovation of Jinxian Gate in Jieyang's history, and the city has specially allocated more than 700,000 yuan for this purpose."

At the end of 2005, the Jieyang Municipal Cultural Relics Department, with the municipal party committee and municipal government attaching great importance to it, set up a leading group, invited relevant provincial experts to conduct on-site investigation and research, formulated a "Rescue Maintenance Plan", and decided to repair the Jinxian Gate The gate tower is undergoing major renovations, with an estimated investment of 780,000 yuan, to restore the simple and elegant style of the Jinxian Gate Tower.

The principle of this renovation is to "repair the old as before". The damaged components will be repaired if they can be repaired, and reinforced if they can be, and will not be replaced at will. If it must be replaced, its size, shape, and texture must be processed and copied according to the original. Large wooden components that cannot be reused due to serious decay must be approved by the cultural relics department before they can be replaced according to the original model, so as to keep the original appearance of the building unchanged as much as possible. To this end, before starting construction, the relevant departments carefully videotaped, photographed, drew and recorded the entire building, and the construction was carried out strictly accordingly.

The wood-carved hanging lotus in the corner is one of the details and essence of the tower's architecture. After hundreds of years of wind and rain, some of the original exquisite, delicate and lifelike hanging lotus flowers have broken petals, and some have cracked paint. In order to restore these lotuses to their former beauty, craftsmen polished, carved, patched, and painted them petal by petal, finally making the lotus flowers that had withered for hundreds of years bloom again.

In order to maintain the original appearance of the entire building to the greatest extent, the repair method adopts the "top-off" method, that is, all the tiles on the roof are removed, the roof is raised with jacks, and the rotten corner columns below are replaced. , Liang Tie, and then lowered the roof, paved with gray tiles and green glazed tile tubes.

Lin Wuyuan, director of the Jieyang Museum in charge of the Jinxian Gate renovation project, told reporters that this time the renovation of the Jinxian Gate tower is relatively large, and part of the wooden structure on the tower and pavilion roof will be passively "surgery" , which is the ancient building restoration lingo of “lifting off the roof and uncovering the roof”. However, the entire maintenance process will be carried out strictly in accordance with the principle of "repairing the old as before to preserve its authenticity". In order to ensure that the architectural style, techniques, structural characteristics and material texture of the entire tower are consistent with the original appearance, some incomplete and loose components can be repaired. Repair, reinforce, and not replace at will, so as to save money and preserve more of the original components to maintain the original historical and artistic value of the building. This renovation will also remove the flower island and fountain built in front of the city tower, rearrange the greening of the small square in front of the city gate, and arrange lighting to make the whole thing more coordinated and attractive. In addition, in order to pay attention to the unique style of "Qiao Tower Xiaojiao", relevant leaders and experts are currently studying and discussing the installation of watch drums or auspicious bells on the second floor of the tower to report peace and good luck during the new year and festivals. It is reported that the entire repair work is progressing smoothly and has now entered the roofing stage.

On February 25, 2014 (Jiawu Year), the Jinxian Gate Tower in Rongcheng, which has a history of nearly 400 years, started to be repaired again.

Bamboo scaffolding was erected around the city tower, the pavement tiles around the square were removed, and temporary walls of color steel plates were erected around the square to enclose the entire square. A warm reminder was posted at the construction site: "The renovation project of Jinxianmen Gate Tower and Square has begun. Tourists and leisure citizens are kindly requested not to enter the dangerous construction site. We apologize for the inconvenience caused to everyone!”

According to reports, the Jinxianmen Gate Tower and Square have been eroded by wind and rain for a long time and have deteriorated. In order to better protect the cultural relics, they will be repaired. The project is mainly divided into two parts. The first is to strengthen the tower body, which includes removing termites, cleaning, repairing and painting according to traditional techniques, drawing colorful paintings, plastering plaques, etc.; secondly, repairing the tower square, including Sidewalks and flowerbeds will be repaired. The renovation project will be completed by the end of June and will take about 120 days.

It is reported that the Jinxian Gate Tower was built in the first year of Qi Dynasty (AD 1621) in the Ming Dynasty. It was initiated by Zeng Yingrui, the magistrate of the county. It was rebuilt in the 39th year of Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty (AD 1700) and rebuilt in 2002 AD. The tower is based on Jinxian Gate, facing east from the west, 20 meters high, 19 meters wide, and the urn gate is 8 meters deep. The main body of the tower covers an area of ??about 166 square meters and is a three-story pavilion with a pointed roof. The first floor is a square pavilion with openings in the north and south. The north and south corridor walls are decorated with movable windows. The second and third floors are octagonal, with red inner columns and eaves columns on each floor, surrounded by flower windows and corridor walls. The roofs are all covered with green glazed tiles, and the raised feet are decorated with carved wooden dragon heads and hanging lotus pillars. The tower has a rigorous structure and is magnificent. It is meant to promote wise men and is one of the eight ancient scenic spots in Jieyang. On March 5, 1993, it was announced as the first batch of cultural relics protection units in Jieyang City.
