China's auto market is also heavy, and China's auto market has seen the biggest drop in passenger car sales since 15. Monthly 1.699 million passenger cars were sold nationwide in 2020, an increase of -2 1.5% over the same period of 20 19. The chain growth rate was -20.8%, which was the largest negative growth since the Federation recorded.
In the overall downward environment, many independent brands have shown a good trend of year-on-year contrarian growth. According to the data of 15 self-owned brand car companies we obtained, 9 of them showed growth, but most of them were car companies with low sales. Among the car companies that fell year-on-year, BAIC New Energy and SAIC-GM-Wuling both fell by more than 50%. Among them, the overall sales volume of SAIC-GM-Wuling has remained high all the year round, and this plunge has had a considerable impact on the overall sales volume of passenger cars.
Perhaps it is because of poor sales, a certain inventory backlog, or perhaps it is a sincere contribution to the country and the people. SAIC-GM-Wuling is not in a hurry to resume the production of cars after the year, but let some employees resume the production of masks first. Compared with Beijing Benz, which is eager to apply for the resumption of automobile production, many people think that SAIC-GM-Wuling's approach is to contribute to the country, while Beijing Benz only cares about production profits, regardless of employees' health. But in fact, does SAIC-GM-Wuling really give priority to the production of masks just to understand the country's "urgent needs"? Let's take a look at the predecessor history of SAIC-GM-Wuling before drawing a conclusion.
The predecessor of SAIC-GM-Wuling was born in 1958. Under the central government's policy of "building socialism with all efforts, striving for the upper reaches, saving land and time", Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region began to build a new plant of Liuzhou Power Machinery Factory. At first, it mainly produced power machinery and military materials, and it was not until 196 1 that the tractor was officially trial-produced. 1964 was successfully put into trial production, with an annual output of 300 vehicles planned, forming the prototype of SAIC-GM-Wuling.
By the mid-1970s, the annual output of this factory had reached 5,000 sets, making it one of the eight tractor factories in China. However, by the end of 1970s, the sales of tractor products began to decline. By 1980, the backlog reached 17 13. Therefore, the factory implemented the policy of "cultivating specialty with miscellaneous products" and began to put into production sewing machines and automatic shuttle changing looms on 1982.
However, the factory has never given up its specialty-power machinery. While producing sewing machines and automatic shuttle-changing cotton looms, it began to trial-produce mini-cars belonging to China people. 1984, the minivans produced by the factory passed the national technical appraisal, and more than 2,300 minivans put into production that year were widely welcomed by consumers. Until 1985, the factory completed the production of 4,224 cars, and in the same year it was renamed as Liuzhou Minicar Factory.
1987, when the van with the contemporary number Z 1 10OVH rolled off the assembly line, a Wuling trademark designed by Wei, a college student in the factory at that time, was officially registered and put into use, and it has been used ever since. At this point, liuzhou wuling, the familiar predecessor of SAIC Wuling, which was transformed from Liuzhou Power Machinery Factory, was basically completed. It is worth noting that 1985 officially discontinued the automatic shuttle changing loom in the project of "specializing in miscellaneous feeding", and 1989 officially discontinued the sewing machine project.
After that, how did liuzhou wuling become SAIC-GM-Wuling, and then how did it become the "king" of independent MPV? Let's not talk about this. From the predecessor history of SAIC-GM-Wuling (hereinafter referred to as "Wuling"), we have noticed the words "exclusively relying on miscellaneous". Perhaps the production of masks by Wuling this time is another beginning for them to "specialize in miscellaneous things".
During the COVID-19 epidemic, Wuling was the first automobile company to start producing masks. It took only three days to complete the trial production, with a daily output of 6.5438+0.7 million, and obtained the national medical device business license. The workshop that put the mask into production is Guangxi Defurt Technology Co., Ltd., a group owned by Wuling, which originally provided interior production for Wuling automobile. At present, the group has changed its name to Guangxi Defulai Medical Devices Co., Ltd., and its business scope has been expanded.
Although Wuling announced the production of masks, it said that part of the masks produced by the factory will be handed over to the Liuzhou Municipal Government for unified deployment to support the frontline of epidemic prevention, and the other part will be presented to frontline soldiers of epidemic prevention, upstream and downstream industrial chains and other partners. But after the epidemic, where will these production lines go? Or what will happen to Guangxi Defulai Medical Equipment Co., Ltd. after expanding its business scope?
It is understood that at present, the factory has built 14 mask production lines, and the production lines left over after the epidemic may continue to be produced. At this stage, the retail price of all kinds of masks has increased to a certain extent. Although Wuling has indicated that it will not retail, we don't know whether it will retail after the epidemic.
In fact, after the outbreak, Wuling took the masks produced as retail profits, and we should also thank Wuling for its efforts during the epidemic. But this may be one of the projects of "miscellaneous materials education". In addition, we also noticed that the business scope of the factory also includes disinfectants, washing equipment and washing supplies. These may also be Wuling's project of "raising specialty products with miscellaneous products" after the epidemic.
Since the second half of 20 18, the automobile market in China has shown signs of decline, but there is no obvious sign of recovery today. After the epidemic, there may be people who plan to buy fewer cars and will continue to wait and see with money. Perhaps this year, China auto market and even the global auto market will be even worse. Recently, car companies began to produce masks, probably because they "specialize in miscellaneous branches" and use other non-professional projects to provide profits to protect the overall viability of car companies. But in any case, we still want to thank some car companies for transforming their production lines and making masks and disinfection supplies for the epidemic.
