Most-favored-nation treatment is a common system in international economic and trade relations, also known as "non-discriminatory treatment". It usually refers to the preferential treatment, privileges or immunities given to each other by two contracting States in trade, navigation, customs duties and the legal status of citizens, which are no less than those given to any third country at present or in the future. The clauses in the treaty that stipulate such treatment are called "most-favored-nation clauses".
MFN treatment can be divided into unconditional MFN treatment and conditional MFN treatment. The former refers to all preferential treatment given by one party to a third country now or in the future, which should be unconditionally, freely and automatically applied to the other party. The latter refers to the preferential treatment given by one contracting state to a third country now or in the future, and the other contracting state must provide the same compensation to enjoy it.
