What does CR and DR mean in medical imaging?

CR is the acronym for computerized radiography.CR is a type of medical imaging for diagnosing diseases. It uses digitized images, is easily accessible from PACS systems, and can incorporate computer technology to process images and improve image quality.

CR is relatively inexpensive, and a single set of CRs can digitize the entire hospital's X-ray equipment.

DR refers to a new technology of direct digital radiography under the control of a computer, i.e., using amorphous silicon flat-panel detector to convert the X-ray information that penetrates the body into a digital signal, and computer reconstruction of the image and a series of post-processing of the image.

CR Advantages

1, it is in the X-ray to the patient when the dose is smaller than the dose of traditional X-ray photography.

2, make the image digital, easy to access the PACS system.

3. The IP board can be placed flexibly, which is convenient for the heavy patients who are not mobile.

4. Compared with DR, it is inexpensive, and a set of CR can realize the digitalization of X-ray equipment in the whole hospital.

DR features

(a) DQE, detection efficiency of up to 74%, ordinary screen combination of X-ray photographs DQE 30%.

(ii) DR imaging speed, acquisition time of 10ms or less, imaging time is only 3 seconds, diagnostic radiologist instantly observe the image on the screen.

(c) DR has a high spatial resolution and low noise rate, amorphous silicon X-ray irradiation is directly converted to electrical signals, can avoid other imaging modalities such as ordinary screen combination of photographs, CR and other light irradiation of phosphorus material caused by scattering after the image sharpness is reduced, and therefore can be obtained from high-definition images. And high performance MTF curve can be obtained.

(iv) digital images can be post-processed. Image post-processing is the biggest feature of digital images. Only after the original data to be retained, it can be based on diagnostic needs, and through the software function, targeted image processing, in order to improve the diagnostic rate.

(v) DR has a low radiation dose.

(vi)DR's direct conversion technology makes network work simple and efficient, paving the way for medical imaging to realize all-digitalization and filmlessness

(vii)Effectively solving the archive management and transmission of images, adopting the form of CD-ROM burning to save image data, and being able to provide photo printing service for examinees at any time to prevent the loss of photos and duplication of photos, and the high definition of the DR photo is the region's major hospitals mutual recognition of photo images, to the higher hospitals do not have to do a repeat examination, reduce the expenditure on repeat examinations.
