JDI transferred LCD liquid crystal panel factory to Sharp, which will also be used to produce iPhone screen panels.

Sharp is expected to take over the resources of this factory, will be used for the production of display panels for iPhone models, as before, and will lease special production equipment from Apple.

It is expected that the transfer to Sharp's LCD panel factory is located in Hakusan, Ishikawa Prefecture, Japan, and is mainly used for the production of display panels for smartphones, and was previously considered to be used for the production of panel components for display screens for iPhone models. The actual transaction amount is likely to be between 41.2 billion yen (equivalent to about 386 million U.S. dollars).

Prior to this, Apple had paid JapanDisplay $1.5 billion in advance for the construction of this factory, but based on the subsequent new iPhone began to shift to the use of OLED display panels, the demand for LCD display panels is reduced, coupled with JapanDisplay for the transition to the production of OLED display panels are not well-prepared, so this factory from July last year, the factory was closed.

JapanDisplay originally planned to complete the disposal of the plant by the end of March this year, and sold the display panel production equipment one after another earlier, but the subsequent impact of the new coronavirus outbreak has affected the progress of the plant sale.

And Sharp is expected to take over the resources of this factory, will also be used to produce iPhone models using display panels, and will be leased to Apple dedicated production equipment, originally located in Kameyama, Japan, the factory will be transformed into the production of automotive or medical equipment using display panels.
