Brief introduction to the design of Fan Zeng Art Museum of Nantong University

The design of Fan Zeng Art Museum of Nantong University is based on the concept of traditional quadrangles in China, and reinterprets this concept through the contemporary context, re-establishing the significance and goal of this local tradition in the modern environment. The building has a huge square plane, based on masonry structure, and the envelope structure is translucent, showing the recognizable Chinese cornice line in a contemporary abstract way. It includes three types of courtyards. Although these courtyards are independent, when tourists walk through the hall, they give people a feeling of close integration and vitality.

Located on the first floor, this "Art Garden" welcomes visitors to visit the museum in a partially enclosed space. This semi-closed space is characterized by the juxtaposition of several geometric shapes and the three-dimensional laminated structure of polygons. Walking up the stairs, you can see the "Water Courtyard" and "Stone Courtyard", which span the whole longitudinal space in the north-south direction of the building. These slender roof spaces bring visitors closer to the surrounding swimming pool, which is enclosed in a huge wall composed of slender parallel shutters. The last main courtyard is the "surrounding courtyard", which is located at the top of other parts of the building and is particularly eye-catching as a traditional open courtyard.
