Zhang Xinsheng's Story

Aspiring to be a doctor

In 1931, Zhang Xinsheng was born into a family of high-ranking Kuomintang (KMT) military officers, and his father was a major general in the KMT Air Force. As the eldest son, his father had high hopes that he would grow up to be a successful man.

The teenage years of Zhang Xinsheng were during the Japanese invasion of China. With his father's constant reassignment, he and his family moved around Yunnan, Sichuan, Guizhou and other places. Although the school is not fixed, but he is diligent and studious, no matter where he transferred to, he quickly became the top of the school.

The family moved around with the way, the young Zhang Xinsheng witnessed the old society poor people can not seek medical treatment, medicine can not be asked, sick people can not be cured of the miserable situation, he empathy for the people's plight, then he set the ambition: grow up to be a doctor specializing in treating the poor people.

In the summer of 1948, Zhang Xinsheng was busy preparing for his university entrance exam. One day, his father asked him about his plans to apply for the exams, and Zhang replied without hesitation: I want to be a doctor!

The son wanted to be a doctor, and in his father's opinion, his future would be much broader if he went into the civil service. So he asked Zhang Xinsheng: Why do you want to be a doctor?

I want to be a doctor, for the people to see patients, for the country and the people to do something meaningful. Zhang Xinsheng, who has always been stubborn and assertive, told his father firmly.

In the fall of 1948, at the age of 17, Zhang Xinsheng entered the medical school of the National Central University of China in Nanjing with excellent grades, and took the first step toward his dream of serving his country with medicine.

Baikouen's "fans"

A thin, high-nosed foreign doctor, dressed in an old Eighth Route Army uniform with an Eighth Route armband and wearing a pair of straw sandals, bowed down and operated on the sick and wounded inside a dilapidated temple. ...... The clear picture often shows Zhang Xinsheng's face. The clear picture often flashes in Zhang Xinsheng s memory. This high nose foreign doctor is no one else, he is the great international ****productivist warrior Bai Qun. Bai Qiu'en is also the eternal idol of Zhang Xinsheng's life.

During the Cultural Revolution, Zhang Xinxin read Chairman Mao's "In Memory of Bakun" every day, an article he can still memorize. Zhang Xinxin believes that the extreme responsibility for the work mentioned in the article, extreme enthusiasm for the people, and technical excellence is a high degree of moral constraints on medical workers. The two extremes of the two fine brief and concise, is the most profound, the most incisive, the most comprehensive height of medical ethics in ancient and modern times, is the eternal professional sentiment of medical workers, is the motto that everyone can be enshrined for a lifetime. Zhang Xinsheng believes that the value of life lies in dedication, your dedication to society, creating value, which is your value; the value of life is not in the solicitation, the solicitation is not called value, the value of the doctor should be their own medical skills for the general public. Comrade Bai Chun did the best in this point, he does not benefit himself, specializing in people, extremely responsible for the work, both the great ****productivist warrior, but also the greatest doctor. He is so high status, came to China from thousands of miles, for China's anti-Japanese war, sacrificed his life, his kind of spirit is worth forever learning to carry forward. The State Ministry of Health officially established November 16th every year as Bai Qiu'en Memorial Day. Zhang Xinsheng heard very excited. He said this will at least let the current doctors, on this day to know what is medical ethics, what is the way of medicine.

The demonstration effect of a good model is huge, and the leading force is infinite. Zhang Xinxin has always regarded Bai Koun as the beacon of the direction of life value, always in the service of patients, dedication to society in writing their own value of life. He was inspired by the spirit of Bai Qun, step by step growth into a famous doctor.

Books are more important than life

Zhang Xinsheng has been a learned man with profound medical skills, which is inseparable from his diligent study and hard work.

In order to grasp the latest international medical developments, in the 1960s and 1970s, Zhang Xinsheng has begun to subscribe to a number of English-language medical journals at his own expense.

In 1983, Zhang Xinsheng was transferred to 202 Hospital as the director of the comrades who moved for him clearly remember: at that time, Zhang Xinsheng's home, in addition to a closet, a kettle, is a box of books.

Zhang Xinsheng has a characteristic, that is, books are more important than money and even life.

On one occasion, Zhang Xinsheng lived in the unit dormitory building renovation and moving, coinciding with his illness in the ward with a bottle. The love of his life for fear of affecting him to get well secretly invited the soldiers of the service company to help, but still did not hide from Zhang Xinsheng, he completely ignored the doctor's discouragement, dragging a weak body rushed over. He insisted on organizing the books one by one with his own hands, then carefully boxed them up and watched the soldiers carry them to the car. Even so, he was not assured that when loading the car for transportation, he had to personally escort the car, and no one could stop him.

When the car traveling on the way, due to the bad road conditions, the car all the way bumps. Suddenly, a box of books will fall to the ground, Zhang Xinxin turned back and reached out to grab a corner of the box, dead not let go. See even people with books will fall, but he still do not let go. If not for the quickness of the soldiers around him, he had to have an accident. Afterwards, whenever his lover in front of him nagging, he always said half jokingly: these books but I half life life root ah, I can not afford to damage ah!

Really, Zhang Xinsheng has always regarded books as important as life, and also regarded them as his mentors and friends in the struggle. Now, in the desk desk, but also has been placed in a thick pile of some yellowing handwritten information, which is also his practice of medicine for decades to carefully organize the accumulation of literature card, it is said to add up to about a million words, and there are hundreds of thousands of words of medical information is written in English.

Two major town hospital "magic weapon"

Knowledge changes destiny, knowledge is life! Perhaps it is more direct and appropriate to use it on the medical staff who treat the sick and save the lives of others.

Zhang Xinsheng that basic theory and foreign language proficiency is a professional essential to the two cornerstones, basic theory is not firm on the comprehension is not deep, foreign language is not refined on the vision is not broad, for two reasons: First, if a clinician does not have a wealth of basic knowledge as a foundation for all clinical phenomena, it is impossible to flexibly use anatomy, physiology, pathology, pharmacology and other basic theories to make an explanation, to do! If a clinician does not have a wealth of basic knowledge, he or she will not be able to interpret all clinical phenomena by applying basic theories of anatomy, physiology, pathology and pharmacology flexibly and be able to know what is true and what is not, and it will be difficult to react quickly, make accurate judgments, and provide appropriate treatment for complicated cases. Secondly, English is a universal international language, 80% of the vast ocean of medical literature is published in English, and the main literature tools such as medical indexes, medical abstracts, biological abstracts, etc. are all issued in English. If you are not proficient in a foreign language, you will not be able to quickly and accurately grasp the world's cutting-edge information for my use.

Zhang Xinsheng is accompanied by the basic theory and foreign language learning and exploration, to continue to broaden their own medical career path. The study of basic medical theory and foreign language knowledge has never ceased in his 60 years of medical practice. Zhang Xinsheng has made painstaking efforts to read the basic theories of anatomy, physiology, pathology, pharmacology and other English medical monographs and a large number of English literature, an English version of the Kong's Practical Anatomy, he can almost memorize, and the important diagrams drawn down to save the present. The solid theoretical knowledge of the business and the ability to use foreign languages freely are the two major assets that Zhang Xinsheng uses to treat patients and engage in medical research.

Diseases are cured by different specialties, but patients are not divided into specialties, and many cases are mixed and intertwined! In order to save the patient, Zhang Xinsheng learns a lot of internal medicine knowledge related to surgery, reads three different versions of electrocardiography, and even learns a wide range of subjects such as ophthalmology, obstetrics and gynecology. Even though this was not his specialty, he became an expert in this area and in this way corrected many biases.

While working at the 202nd hospital, a nurse had difficulty defecating and had blood in her stool. The general surgery department of the hospital diagnosed rectal cancer and prepared to remove the rectum surgically. During the consultation, Zhang Xinsheng overturned the previous general surgery judgment and diagnosed endometriosis. This is a rare gynecological case. The surgical plan was changed, the rectum was preserved, and the patient was cured. When asked where this unheard of diagnosis came from, Mr. Zhang frankly told everyone that he had seen a similar case in a foreign language monograph. His answer, so that everyone once again feel the knowledge to change fate, knowledge is life! The real connotation and power of this is that knowledge is the key to the success of a company.

During his tenure as president of 202 Hospital and vice president of Shenyang Military Region General Hospital, Zhang Xinsheng, in response to the fact that some medical staff do not pay enough attention to basic theories and have a low level of English, personally organized and presided over the English Clinical Pathology Seminar, the English Basic Medical Knowledge Contest, the English room visit, the Medical English Contest, the English evening party, and other activities, which have effectively improved the professional and technical skills of the medical staff and the level of foreign language.

Multidisciplinary experts

Zhang Xinsheng's superb medical skills involve many subdisciplines of surgery, and the surgeries he has done cover general surgery, thoracic surgery, orthopedics, brain surgery, urology, pentacameral surgery and other disciplines. Kong Xiangwen (director of the Department of Surgery of the 321st Hospital, a student taught by Zhang Xinsheng) commented on Zhang Xinsheng: I always feel that Zhang Xinsheng is just like a god, there is nothing he won't do.

On one occasion, a patient with thoracic spine tuberculosis, after surgery, was pushed to the ward in a coma and stopped breathing and heartbeat.

Why the coma? Why did the breathing and heartbeat stop?

The hospital immediately discussed, director Zhang heard the condition and immediately asked: thoracic cavity put streptomycin did not?

When he was told to put streptomycin, he immediately concluded that streptomycin in anesthesia synergistic nerve-muscle junction blocking reaction, resulting in respiratory arrest, and guided the doctors to start resuscitation.

Some of the more highly qualified doctors felt that Zhang was only a surgeon, and could not have been so proficient in pharmacology, but could not come up with a viable rescue plan.

Some of the younger doctors didn't understand the reason and asked why they had to be saved like this. Zhang Xinsheng said sternly: now first rescue the patient do not ask, go back and then discuss.

According to Zhang's guidance, the patient's breathing soon returned. Later, Zhang Xinsheng found a young doctor for them to explain carefully.

Because of his comprehensive skills, many internal medicine patients came to him for resuscitation.

One patient who had undergone a major surgery and had lost a lot of blood was given calcium gluconate, as is customary in hospitals. Soon the patient developed pulmonary edema and developed heart failure. During the resuscitation, there was a difference of opinion on whether to use the drug cediran or not. Because in theory, if cediran is used, calcium gluconate cannot be used. Otherwise, digitalis cardiotoxicity would occur and the patient would die.

The argument continued, but none of them dared to slap down a decision. In the end, it was Zhang Xinsheng who said decisively: you can use it. His explanation was that, theoretically, cediran was used first and calcium gluconate could not be used, however, calcium gluconate was used first and had been combined with the anticoagulant beryllium in the transfusion, and then metabolized, and the calcium channel function had been restored, so that cediran could be used with confidence.

And sure enough, when it was administered, the pulmonary edema disappeared and the heart failure corrected.

On one occasion, a nurse in 202 hospital in the obstetrics and gynecology department, she was 52 years old, the old man got a child is also a happy event, or twins, but look at the birth of a child, the abdominal pain suddenly can not stand, which can be anxious her family, or adults and children can not be saved ah, which is also anxious gynecologists do not know how to treat!

Despite the fact that Dean Zhang is not a gynecologist, the patient's family still found him. The first time I saw this, I was in the middle of a long journey, and it was a long time ago that I was in the middle of a long journey, and it was a long time ago that I was in the middle of a long journey, and it was a long time ago that I was in the middle of a long journey. It is not long before the disease is cured, but also safe to give birth to a pair of dragon and phoenix child.

No "diamond drill" can also do porcelain work

July 28, 1976, Tangshan earthquake, a moment of national shock, the country, the whole army rescue teams have to Tangshan, Zhang Xinxin also in the rescue team.

Warrior Wu accidentally fell from a viaduct during the rescue, causing a fall in the back of the head, intracranial hemorrhage, and fainted at that time, the situation is very urgent, and his life will be in danger at any time. After the earthquake, Tangshan is in ruins, the operating room are located in the field tents, the conditions are very simple, no CT, magnetic **** vibration and other equipment, there is no brain surgery experts, doctors are anxious to rub their hands, but it is who do not dare to take the risk of surgery easily.

Time in a minute and a second loss, the warrior's vital signs are getting weaker and weaker ......

I'll try. At 9 o'clock in the evening, just when everyone was so anxious that they didn't know what to do, a small voice suddenly came from behind the crowd, and everyone turned around to see, it turned out to be the deputy leader of the medical team of the 321st Hospital, Zhang Xinxin, deputy director of the Department of Thoracic Surgery, who had just rushed to the hospital.

Finally, someone dared to go on the operating table, and not only did everyone cast admiring gazes, but at the same time many people were full of doubts, could he do it? Kong Xiangwen, who came with Zhang Xinxin, was even more worried, as this kind of surgery is not his specialty.

Under the faint light, people began to busy themselves, changed into a surgical uniform of Zhang Xinsheng stood in front of the operating table, looking for bleeding points, suture decontamination bandage, all methodical, everything in order. More than two hours later, the operation was successfully completed, Wu also slowly regained consciousness, out of danger of life.

In the people's cheers and applause, Zhang Xinxin wearily out of the tent, looking at the starry night sky, can not help but long breath. Why did you go up there? Not afraid of surgical failure ah? As Zhang Xinsheng's comrade-in-arms and party leader, Kong Xiangwen asked worriedly.

The patient was the only thing in my eyes,

Zhang Xinsheng smiled faintly.

Sixteen consecutive electroshock miracles

As a doctor who saves lives and helps people, as long as the patient still has a glimmer of hope, we must make 100 percent effort! This is the credo of Zhang Xinxin, he regarded the patient as a loved one, the patient has been not abandoned, never cared about personal gains and losses in the treatment. It is because of this persistence that he has created one medical miracle after another, only to make one patient after another to come back from the dead.

In 1975, the 321st Hospital admitted a patient with mitral stenosis, the wife of a young forestry worker. One day after the operation, the patient suddenly developed ventricular fibrillation, and everyone was at their wits' end.

At this time, as the attending physician Zhang Xinsheng, and other colleagues are studying political theory in the study room, after hearing the situation, Zhang Xinsheng immediately realized the seriousness of the matter. He rushed to the ward, holding the patient to run to the rescue room, in the rescue room, Zhang Xinsheng decided to use high-energy direct current defibrillation to save the patient. It is important to know that at that time, the hospital was still the first time to use this new technology.

Once, twice, three times ......

When it came to the fourth time, some people persuaded Zhang Xinxin to say, "We've done our best, but we can't give up," he said. People's persuasion is not unreasonable, because at that time in the domestic academic report, this kind of electric shock did not exceed four times.

The hospital also called for help from Peking Union Medical College Hospital, which also said it had no cases of more than four electric shocks so far.

However, Zhang Xinsheng, after examining the patient, argued that he still demanded that the electroshock resuscitation be continued. He believed that if nothing was done, the patient would have to wait for death, and that there was still a glimmer of hope for electroshock.

Thirteen, fourteen, fifteen ...... Under Zhang's careful direction, the resuscitation team administered a record 16 electric shocks in one day, eliminating 45 episodes of ventricular fibrillation and finally turning the patient around. This can be counted as a miracle in medical history. Later, the Chinese Journal of Internal Medicine published his successful rescue case.

Sweetly serving as a ladder

Zhang Xinsheng is a man of integrity, broad-minded. As a leader, he does not have the utilitarianism and impatience of the officialdom; as a scholar, he does not have the frivolity and arrogance of the literati. He is very knowledgeable, profound medical skills, but not conservative. In order to help the surrounding comrades to climb to the peak of professional and technical, he is willing to serve as a selfless walking stick, an honorable stepping stone.

The former chief surgeon of the 321st Hospital, Zhou Changxuan, was busy preparing his academic paper for a clinical emergency meeting organized by the Ministry of Health of the military region. The topic is well thought out, but the typical case data on hand is a little less. Anxious as a hot pot of ants. When worrying, Zhang Xinxin knew the situation, took the initiative to turn over the more than two thousand six hundred case information he had carefully collected over the years, and overnight checked and selected dozens of typical case information, written into three clear index, into his hands. He urged him to prepare well and strive to win honor for the hospital.

Director Liu Xiaoyan of the Department of Plastic Surgery at the Military General Hospital is about to complete an important academic research paper, but in the final critical link, a difficult foreign language academic translation has become a roadblock. I heard that President Zhang Xinsheng is knowledgeable in foreign languages, Director Liu came to ask Zhang Xinsheng to help. Without saying a word, he worked for six consecutive days and nights in his study with his illness, and finally made the thesis come out smoothly.

When the doctor must be rigorous

Zhang Xinsheng asked all medical staff must have a rigorous attitude, do not allow half a bit of adulteration, can not be sloppy, because he believes that this is the most basic requirements of the patient's responsibility.

Zhang Xinsheng reads the cases and is most annoyed by the doctor's question mark, he requires the doctor to have a clear diagnosis of the patient's condition.

Zhang Xinsheng asked doctors to memorize the patient's case, case number, age, name, and all kinds of laboratory tests.

Reporting cases, he asked doctors not to make a single mistake, and the wording must be rigorous. Once, when an old doctor reported a case, he didn't use professional terminology, and when he heard it, Zhang Xinsheng immediately criticized him: we do academic discussions, we must be rigorous.

Zhang Xinsheng asked the doctor to fill out the medical record, there can be no misspellings, can not appear the phenomenon of the words do not make sense, once found, Zhang Xinsheng will immediately ask the doctor to re-fill.

On one occasion, Mr. Zhang saw a doctor fill in a patient's medical record: heart and lungs are not abnormal. These four words appear in some hospitals nowadays, but Zhang was so annoyed that he criticized the doctor, saying, "You can't be a doctor with this attitude.

Zhang Xinsheng asked the doctor, in the examination of the heart, to strictly adhere to the vision, touch, knock, listen, heart boundaries to charts and diagrams, murmurs to depict a clear, can not just look at the chest radiographs, ultrasound, must be in person, hands and ears to check the diagnosis.
