He never went to war, but he was awarded the rank of lieutenant general in '55, so why did no one object?

In 1955, the first time that military rank assessment was practiced on the basis of seniority and war merit. However, due to the balance of forces, there were some special cases, such as He Bingyan's quasi-corps admiral, vice-military admiral Yang Xiushan, and of course there were low-ranking admirals, such as Admiral Duan Suquan, who was "temporarily appointed as a major general". Regardless of rank, they are all pioneers who rode the sands for dozens of years and made great achievements for the cause of national liberation.

However, there was a very special situation at the conferral ceremony. A general had never been to war in his life and probably could not even touch a gun. But he was awarded the rank of lieutenant general, and not a single general objected. Who was he? What special contributions did you make during the war years?

His name was Fu Lianzhang and he was born in Changting, Fujian Province, in 1894. Influenced by his parents, they joined the Christian Church from an early age. He also received his primary education in a parochial school. at the age of 17, Fu Lianzhang graduated from Changting High School and entered the Ashton Medical College. After five years of hard work, he became one of the top graduates of the medical school. After graduation, he was employed as a traveling doctor by the Evangelical Hospital. Because of his excellent medical skills, he became president of Gospel Hospital in 1925.

At that time, under the guidance of Deng Zichu, he was very much aspiring to our party's revolutionary ideas. when the Nanchang Uprising troops passed through Changting in 1927, he treated hundreds of insurrectionary wounded and sick people free of charge, and even the chairman's mentor, Xu Teli, was pro-autonomous well. This is Fu Lianzhang's first contribution to the Party, but not the last. 1929, after the liberation of Changting, the Gospel Hospital admitted a large number of Red Army wounded and sick.

After the establishment of the Western Fujian Soviet Union, Fu Lianzhang donated his years of savings to the Red Army, and he also mobilized his children and nephews to enroll in the Red Army. And because of his help, many people survived. In 1932, the President was suffering from severe malaria. Fu Lianzhang rode more than 100 miles to the Gannan Soviet Government in Yudu. After a few days of medical treatment, he pulled the Chairman back from the ghost gate. In fact, besides the chairman, people such as General Zhu, Marshal Liu Bocheng, General Chen Geng, and Wang Shusheng all received medical treatment.

Because he had treated too many Red Army soldiers, he also felt inseparable from the Red Army. 1933, Fu Lianzhang made the decision to move the Gospel Hospital to Ruijin. In order to move all the medical equipment to Ruijin, he hired more than 100 porters. It took him nearly half a month before and after to complete this huge project. It was really a great effort. Not only that, he also founded the Red Medical College, which trained a large number of medical personnel for the Red Army and made great contributions to the development of our army's medical care.

In 1934, Fu Lianzhang suffered from stomach disease and tuberculosis, but he knew how important he was to the team that was about to go on a long march, and he resolutely participated in the long march. During the journey, I don't know how many soldiers saved their lives under his treatment. After arriving in Shanbei, Fu Lianzhang has been in Yan'an to preside over the medical work. 1940, Mr. Zhu also put his own handwriting inscription "model women and children's workers" to give him.
