Is eyebrow tattooing equipment a medical device?

Recently, semi-permanent eyebrow tattooing is really hot, but after we went to the field to study, we found that the water inside was a little deep.

Little friends who have tattooed eyebrows know that tattooing eyebrows uses a special tool to pierce the skin and inject pigment between the epidermis and dermis of the skin, so that the dye stays in the skin as long as possible.

Because it is a broken skin project, the pigment should exist in the skin for a long time, so safety is particularly important.

As early as decades ago, there have been eyebrows tattooed. However, at that time, the pigment of tattooed eyebrows was not enough, and the content of heavy metals was relatively high, which easily faded into red and blue over time.

For example, some people tattoo their eyebrows like this:

Later, the fading problem was alleviated, but the safety problem still existed. CCTV reported the news that the content of heavy metals in tattoo pigments exceeded the standard.

Because of the use of inferior dyes, cases of long-term non-healing of eyebrow wounds also occur from time to time. Because the picture is too bloody, we will not let it go.

It is said that now that technology has improved, tattoo pigments are not easy to change color. Some merchants have developed some plant dyes, and the ingredients will be safer.

So we specially bought six best-selling eyebrow tattoo pigments and prepared to test their safety. The specific product information is as follows:

Inspection fee is 9600 yuan+sample fee 1422 yuan = 1 1022 yuan.

We were a little shocked when the measurement results came out. Unexpectedly, the water in the eyebrow tattoo industry is really a bit deep.

This time, the contents of heavy metals (lead, mercury, cadmium, arsenic, chromium, nickel and hexavalent chromium) in pigments were mainly detected.

Lead, mercury, cadmium and arsenic in cosmetics were detected according to the requirements of Technical Specification for Cosmetic Safety (20 15).

The measurement results are as follows:

Lead and arsenic were detected in all six samples, but mercury and cadmium were not detected. The arsenic content of samples 1 and 5 exceeded the standard.

Arsenic and inorganic arsenic compounds have long been listed as carcinogens by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) of the World Health Organization.

At present, there is no relevant standard limit of chromium and nickel content in cosmetics in China. We refer to the views of various countries on the detection of chromium and nickel in cosmetics and make an inference:

The measurement results are as follows:

In contrast, the contents of chromium and nickel in samples 1, 3 and 5 are a little higher at the same time, so it should be noted.

We consulted a senior practitioner in the medical and beauty industry, and he thought:

However, even in terms of cosmetics standards, lead, arsenic, chromium and nickel were all detected in the six eyebrow tattoo solutions purchased this time, and even two of them had arsenic content exceeding the standard.

Could it be that the eyebrow tattoo liquid sold online is not reliable, and the physical store uses it more formally?

We consulted the eyebrow tattoo practitioners around us and learned that the eyebrow tattoo products used in some physical stores basically come from online shopping.

We also made an unannounced visit to an organization with more than 100 chain stores in China, and learned that the tattoo dyes used were purchased by the headquarters, and the clerk didn't know much about the specific channels.

However, "there are eyebrow tattooing projects with a price of 1000 yuan or more, and there are eyebrow tattooing projects with a price of more than 8,000 yuan". "The pigment composition used at different price points will definitely be different."

According to our investigation, eyebrow tattooing agencies generally don't disclose which brand of pigment they use, and at most they add adjectives such as botanical, imported from Germany and imported from South Korea.

As for the quality of the products used by consumers, it may only depend on luck.

As we mentioned at the beginning, the process of eyebrow tattooing needs acupuncture, which is a traumatic skin breaking project. It stands to reason that this kind of broken skin project should be strictly controlled like medical beauty.

We found that in the Measures for the Administration of Medical Beauty Services, the eyebrow tattooing project is more in line with its provisions:

In this regard, some experts and scholars have also published corresponding views:

But the real eyebrow tattoo projects are mostly street beauty shops, such as beauty salons, shampoo shops, nail salons and so on.

These shops belong to life beauty. According to the regulations of the Ministry of Commerce, they can only provide consumers with non-invasive and non-invasive beauty services on the human body surface.

From this perspective, the tattoo industry is a bit embarrassing.

Not only that, the situation of tattoo eyebrow using products is also a bit embarrassing.

As we all know, engaging in medical and aesthetic services will have strict requirements in the use of products, the qualifications of employees, the use of equipment, and the planning of service places.

According to the classification rules of medical devices issued by the General Administration of Food and Drug Administration of the United States, the devices used for eyebrow tattoo should be judged as a kind of medical devices that contact the human body because they need to invade the skin.

As for eyebrow tattoo liquid products, it needs to invade skin tissue, which obviously does not belong to the category of cosmetics, and the production license is not as simple as the size of makeup. Accordingly, its product requirements should be more stringent.

In fact, the six tattoo pigments we bought were all printed in English except one, which was found to be written with Yuezhuang number through pinyin, and the other five were all beauty products without exception.

Some implement the standard of skin care lotion, and some implement the standard of make-up water.

Even according to the standards of cosmetics, there are two products with excessive arsenic content, and many products have high chromium and nickel content, not to mention the need to penetrate into skin tissue.

We also appeal here that if you know something about the great god of the industry, you are welcome to discuss what kind of products eyebrow tattoo liquid should belong to.

1. Try to choose a well-known eyebrow tattoo agency instead of a street shop. Dad's evaluation suggests that everyone can give priority to institutions with medical and aesthetic qualifications.

2. Ask the organization for some previous eyebrow tattoo cases to avoid the failure of seaweed eyebrows.

3. Before the official eyebrow tattoo, fully understand the qualifications of the business and see if there is eyebrow tattoo in the business scope of the business license.

4. Observe whether the eyebrow tattooing tool used by the merchant is disposable and whether the machine name is marked on the package. After all, it is a broken skin project, so please pay attention to it.

Everyone has a loving heart.

The eyebrow tattoo project can be seen from more than ten years ago to now, which is enough to see how strong the demand is.

Dad's evaluation hopes that everyone can pay attention to the risks behind such semi-permanent projects and be cautious before seeking beauty.

I also hope that relevant businesses can make such projects more transparent and open. Only projects based on safety and health can go further.
