Do all hot springs contain radon?

Radon is an inert gas, which widely exists in human life and working environment. It is a radioactive gas formed by the decay of natural radionuclides-uranium and radium, which is constantly transferred and released into the atmosphere through rock cracks, soil cracks and underground water sources (including hot springs) in nature.

Radon has both disadvantages and advantages.

According to the measurement, the radon content in natural gas is obviously higher than that in coal-based gas, so for residents who use natural gas, the indoor pollution and harm of radon can not be ignored if there is no special exhaust equipment. The World Health Organization has declared that radon is a carcinogen in human environment.

However, "radon spring" plays a very important role in mineral spring medical care therapy. Before people knew the function of radioactive element radon in mineral springs, it could not be explained that some mineral springs belonged to fresh springs according to chemical composition, but their medical and health care functions were much higher than others, so there were many fairy tales circulating among the people. Until recent years, the discovery, research and scientific utilization of radon spring finally unveiled its mysterious veil to the world.

Radon springs in China are mostly low salinity mineral springs. Radon does not combine with other elements, but is soluble in water, oil and fat, and its mass is heavier than air. The higher the water temperature, the lower the solubility, and it is easy to get rid of water and dissipate in the air. Radon has a half-life of 3.825 days and disappears completely after 30 days. It degenerates quickly after entering the human body and is not toxic to the body. It mainly works by alpha rays in the body.

It is understood that the famous radon-bearing mineral springs in China include Xiaotangshan Hot Spring in Beijing, Tanggangzi Hot Spring in Northeast Liaoning and Xingcheng Hot Spring. The mineral springs containing radon in our province include Qionghai Guantang Hot Spring (radon content is 50 Eman/L), Baoting Qixianling Hot Spring (about 150 Eman/L) and Baisha Cold Spring (about 300 Eman/L).

Relevant data show that radon spring is generally used in medical treatment, such as bath therapy, drinking therapy and absorption method. Radon enters the human body mainly by emitting various rays, which can stimulate human functions, promote the contraction and expansion of skin blood vessels and regulate cardiovascular functions, so it can treat hypertension and some cardiovascular diseases.

Because radon is a fat-soluble gas, it can enter the body, penetrate into nerve tissue, regulate nerve function, have hypnotic, sedative and analgesic effects, and have good curative effect on neuritis and arthritis. Radon bath also has a good effect on the function of endocrine glands in human body, which can restore menstruation for women and delay premature aging and restore youth for men, so some people call it "the spring of rejuvenation".
