The Biosphere 2 built in the desert north of Tucson, Arizona, in the United States is a miniature artificial ecological cycle system. It is named after the earth itself is called Biosphere 1. It was initiated by former American football player John Allen and jointly financed it with several consortiums. It was commissioned by the Space Biosphere Venture Capital Company to undertake the construction. It lasted 8 years and cost 1.5 billion US dollars.
On September 26, 1991, eight scientific researchers, four men and four women, stationed in Biosphere 2 for the first time. They walked out on June 26, 1993 and stayed for a total of 21 months. Rich scientific data and practical experience have been accumulated in the research field. After evaluating the first batch of results and improving the technology, 7 experimentalists, 4 men and 3 women from 5 countries including the United Kingdom, Mexico, Nepal, Yugoslavia, Yugoslavia, and the United States, stationed for the second time on March 6, 1994, and worked for 10 Three months later, he walked out in January 1995. During this period, they conducted extensive and systematic scientific research on the atmosphere, water and waste recycling, and food production. Biosphere 2 is the world's largest closed artificial ecosystem. It enables humans to study ecology at a holistic level for the first time, thus opening up a new way to understand the current global-scale ecological change process of the Earth's biosphere. More importantly, it will serve as the first ground simulation device of a permanent bioregenerative life support system and may be used in humankind’s future settlement of extraterrestrial planets and manned space exploration.
However, practice has proven that The plan failed
However, facts have shown that the idea of ??"Biosphere 2" is unrealistic. In January 1993, more than a year after eight scientists entered Biosphere 2, carbon dioxide in the soil reacted with oxygen to produce carbon dioxide, and part of the carbon dioxide reacted with calcium in the concrete used to build Biosphere 2, producing carbonic acid. Calcium causes the oxygen content to drop from 21 to 14; the carbon dioxide content soars. Another surprise is that after three years of operation of the "Biosphere", the nitric oxide content increased sharply to 79, which is enough to weaken the body's ability to synthesize vitamin B12 and endanger brain health.
Scientists also found that, except for vines, which were relatively prosperous, all plants that relied on pollen transmission to reproduce were extinct, and large trees were crumbling; except for termites, cockroaches and grasshoppers, almost all insects were dead. The survival conditions of organisms in the ocean are slightly better than those on land; the man-made desert has turned into a grassland due to failure to control rainfall; the temperature in the lower layer of "Biosphere 2" is much lower than expected. On Lunar Day 1996, Columbia University took over Biosphere 2.
Science has once again proven that the earth is the only planet that supports life. For more than 2 billion years, living things on the earth have thrived and the best have survived. There are about millions of species of animals that have survived to this day. Since the birth of human beings, all of their clothing, food, shelter, transportation and economic activities have relied on this planet. Natural systems such as forests, lakes, grasslands, and coasts on the earth are the basic environment for human survival. At present, humans are still unable to use artificial methods to maintain the vitality of the earth. No one knows how to build an ecosystem that is separated from the earth’s natural environment and allows humans to recuperate
