Norman Bethune was a Canadian physician born in Ontario in 1890. He was a great thoracic surgeon and inventor of the early 20th century, as well as an internationalist and revolutionary. He was a great help to the Chinese people during the war against Japan and is known as "China's National Hero".
Baikouen joined the British army as a field doctor during the First World War. He treated a large number of wounded on the battlefield and invented many medical tools and equipment in the process. His inventions included a mobile blood bank that could be used on the battlefield, a device for stopping bleeding and an antibiotic for treating infections.
In 1938, Paik came to China to join the Chinese war against Japan. He worked in China for two years, during which time he built many medical facilities, trained a large number of medics and operated on countless wounded. His work not only raised the standard of medical care in China, but also greatly boosted the anti-Japanese morale of the Chinese people.
However, Bai Qun's work in China was not recognized by everyone. Some conservative Chinese considered him a foreign interloper, while some Kuomintang officials thought he was a ****ing member of the Communist Party. Nonetheless, Paik continued his work until he died of an infection during an operation.
The story of Bai Qiu'en is widely spread in China and his spirit is y remembered by the Chinese people. His name became synonymous with selflessness and humanitarianism, and his image was widely used in education and propaganda.
