The following is the full text of the speech
The epidemic has become the new normal, from passive response to active adaptation.
The sudden epidemic in 2020 has brought unprecedented impact to the whole society. According to the World Health Organization, more than 65,438+000 countries closed their countries and cities last year. This unprecedented social isolation in human history has brought great influence on the operation of economic activities and personal life. According to McKinsey's research report, almost half of small and medium-sized enterprises in Europe may face the risk of bankruptcy in 20021year. I think everyone has experienced personal influence. In the Spring Festival just past the Year of the Ox, the number of returning tourists in China decreased by 50% compared with last year.
Under the epidemic situation, the whole society has shown great resilience, taking various measures to fight the epidemic and actively adapting to changes. In this process, several major changes have taken place in the way our society operates.
The first is that the intelligent process is accelerating. Now we see intelligent instruments for measuring body temperature in more and more public places. With such an instrument, the speed of measuring body temperature can reach 10 person per second. With such intelligent instruments, we can build the first public health defense line in airports and stations where people are concentrated.
The second feature is production automation. Under the influence of COVID-19 epidemic, more and more enterprises hope to improve the degree of non-contact operation. More automation technologies are used, including factory automation production, logistics service of unmanned vehicles in the park, disinfection and sterilization robots, etc.
The third change is that online has become the norm. We moved our work and meetings online, and so did our students' education. According to the statistics of Boston Consulting, in 2020, more than 654.38 billion primary and secondary school students in the world received online education, which was unimaginable in the past.
Innovate and build a stronger digital infrastructure.
The above changes, on the one hand, are the response that people have to make under the epidemic situation; On the other hand, it is precisely because of the development of digital technologies such as 5G, cloud and Internet of Things in recent years that we have the conditions to change the way society operates in the face of the epidemic. At the same time, these changes also put forward new requirements for digital technology facilities.
First of all, the demand for home broadband network has greatly increased. According to our statistics, the global demand for wireless home broadband will increase by 20% in 2020, reaching 35 million units, so that more families can enjoy better broadband networks.
Secondly, the epidemic also led to an average increase of 50% in global network traffic, and in Wuhan, the traffic growth even reached 70%. The traffic pattern has also changed: there is no longer a distinction between leisure time and busy time, and the hot spot of traffic has also shifted from outdoor to indoor, and from urban to rural areas.
In addition, we observed that more enterprises will use cloud services in 2020. In some domestic industries, such as online education, medical care, retail and other industries, as many as 85% of enterprises have started to use cloud services.
These new changes need more powerful digital infrastructure to meet, and to do this, technological innovation is essential. In the past year, with innovative technology and services, we worked with customers to ensure the stable operation of more than 300 networks in more than 70 countries around the world. To give two examples, in Ningxia, we adopted an innovative integrated router, which enabled one device to access multiple cloud services, meeting the needs of enterprises to access the cloud at lower cost and faster speed during the epidemic. In terms of service innovation, in Indonesia, based on the new digital delivery technology, we have completed the rapid deployment of more than 50,000 base stations under the epidemic situation.
Innovation not only focuses on the present, but also lights up the future.
From the experience of the past year or so, technological innovation has helped the whole society to better cope with the impact of the epidemic. Facing the future, the epidemic may last for a long time, but the post-epidemic era has arrived, and the whole society is thinking about how to restore the economy and restart the society. In this process, innovation is still a key grasp.
Standing at a new starting point, we believe that innovation should not only focus on the present, but also actively think about how to face the future, and make our life richer, business smarter and society more inclusive through technological innovation.
Innovation enriches life.
Now, I invite you to experience a brand-new application. We call it Huawei River Map. This application was developed by Huawei team in combination with 5G network, 5G terminal and AR technology. We hope that through this application, the virtual world and the real world can better integrate.
I asked my colleague to show you. In his mobile phone picture, we traveled back to the Cretaceous, saw the ancient dinosaurs, and came to the African prairie to interact with giraffes and elephants.
There are several key technologies behind this application. The first one is high-precision centimeter-level positioning, which is 50 times higher than GPS positioning accuracy. The second is powerful computing power. To form a high-precision 3D map, it is necessary to collect and calculate hundreds of millions of map feature points, which must be supported by strong computing power. In addition, the demand for network bandwidth reaches 100Mbps. Only a 5G network can provide such a large bandwidth, and a better application experience can be obtained by using a 5G mobile phone.
We believe that the better integration of the virtual world and the real world is an important goal of the next innovation. You can also imagine that when we apply this technology to more scenes, such as education, entertainment, tourism, and even traffic navigation, consumers will get an unprecedented experience; For all kinds of enterprises, this application will establish a new Internet portal for us, which contains endless business opportunities.
Next, let's see what changes innovation can bring to our manufacturing industry.
On this130m-long Huawei mobile phone production line, only a few people operate on the spot, and the AGV is delivered on the specified route. This workshop has deployed a 5G campus private network, and about 500 devices in the workshop have been connected to the 5G network. Through the 5G network, these devices realize real-time data interaction. With such an intelligent production line, the number of operators has decreased by more than 80% compared with the past. The overall production efficiency has been improved by more than 3 times.
Let's see how 5G and artificial intelligence can help improve product quality. A palm-sized circuit board with as many as 2,500 devices on it used to require naked eye inspection by workers, which took at least 2 to 3 minutes. Now it is high-definition shooting, and it is quickly transmitted to the cloud through 5G uplink and large bandwidth, and artificial intelligence detection. The detection can be completed in 6 seconds, and the product yield is increased from 98% to 99.55%.
In Huawei, through our own practice, we make full use of innovative 5G technologies, such as the current 800Mbps uplink large bandwidth capability, which will reach 6Gbps in the future, and Huawei's AI training platform on the cloud. These innovative abilities make the whole production line more intelligent, flexible and efficient, and the working environment of workers has also been greatly improved.
Huawei not only applies these innovative technologies to digital transformation in our own factories, but also cooperates with ecological partners to bring the achievements of these technological innovations to thousands of industries.
We believe that under the impetus of these new technologies, the whole society is facing new opportunities for digital transformation, and the outbreak of this epidemic has also accelerated this process. It is predicted that by 2025, 97% of large enterprises in the world will deploy artificial intelligence, 55% of China's GDP will be driven by digital economy, and 60% of operators' income will come from industries.
Huawei has also made active preparations for the digital transformation of tens of millions of industries, and innovation and cooperation are two graspers. Our innovation includes three levels: technology, products and applications. Taking 5GtoB as an example, at the technical level, Huawei, operators and partners have verified the 5G super uplink innovation scheme. be about to give birth
At the product level, we all know that edge computing is one of the key applications in 5TOB industry. Huawei launched an integrated 5G edge computing product integrating computing and communication, which improved the deployment efficiency of edge computing by 10 times. The promotion and application of 5G in the industry is particularly important. For industry scenarios, Huawei gathers various industry partners through the Wireless Application Scenario Lab (X Labs) and actively explores 5G application incubation for manufacturing, medical care, finance, transportation and other industries.
Another starting point of Huawei innovation is cooperation. Still taking 5GtoB as an example, on the one hand, we actively cooperate with various partners to make Huawei's 5G products better meet the needs of different industry scenarios. For example, the 5G explosion-proof base station can meet the needs of underground operation in the coal industry. On the other hand, actively cooperate with operators, promote 5GtoB solutions to various industries through joint innovation and strategic cooperation, promote the scale replication of 5GtoB from 1 to N, and accelerate the digital transformation of the industry.
Huawei is also cooperating with many industries to accelerate the integration of 5G standards and industry standards and promote the scale of 5GtoB through standardization. Just recently, Huawei, customers and partners jointly established an intelligent mine laboratory in Shanxi. We hope to accelerate the large-scale application of 5G in the industry through such cooperation mode.
I want to use JPMorgan Chase's K-line to explain my worries. Above the K curve, countries, enterprises and individuals who have mastered the resources and capabilities of digital technology are enjoying the dividend of digital technology. For example, companies that have mastered advanced digital technology have hit record highs in business performance and market value even under the epidemic situation. But below the K curve, a large number of companies that have not mastered digital technology are on the verge of bankruptcy. Last year, 654.38 billion primary and middle school students studied online, but for families without connections, the suspension of classes for children means the suspension of classes.
For the connection in remote areas, we have introduced an innovative base station solution, RuralStar. During the epidemic, Huawei cooperated with Ghana in rural network infrastructure projects, and will deploy more than 2,000 RuralStar base stations for Ghana. At present, Ghana has a population of 29.6 million, and the population coverage rate of mobile network is only 83%, so there is still a population coverage problem of 17% in remote areas.
In this project, we use RuralStar scheme to provide basic 2G and 3G connection services and a small amount of 4G broadband access. The specific innovations include: first, it is convenient to install and deploy, and can even be hung on wooden stakes; Secondly, solar energy is used to supply power, which is convenient to obtain electricity in remote areas without commercial power; In addition, the low-power design is adopted to reduce the operating cost of the whole base station. Such innovation has reduced the ROI of the entire base station from 8- 10 to 2-3 years, giving operators more incentive to deploy in remote areas on a large scale. With this scheme, people in remote areas of Ghana can enjoy mobile services earlier.
Ghana is just a microcosm. Globally, more than 40% people have never been connected to the Internet. This is a part of people that we can't forget in the process of promoting digitalization. Huawei's goal is to make it easier for everyone to use digital technology and prevent anyone from falling behind in the digital world.
We can also take action to make small and micro enterprises benefit from digital technology. Hexa Food is a Malaysian company with only 75 employees, producing high-quality seasonings. Pepper is an important raw material for this small company to make seasoning. In the past, the sorting of peppers was done by hand, which was time-consuming and laborious and the quality was uneven.
Two years ago, Huawei helped the company launch a pepper sorting scheme based on artificial intelligence. As small and micro enterprises, they don't need to buy expensive hardware servers, and they don't need high-level IT personnel. They just need to configure simple cameras and connecting devices. Based on Huawei's cloud service, the enterprise realized intelligent pepper sorting, which greatly improved the production efficiency and quality of spices. During the epidemic last year, it was difficult for them to recruit new employees. With the help of artificial intelligence, their output has doubled, but their employees have not increased. I believe that facing the future, countless small and micro enterprises around the world need such technical help.
Digital technology can also make more effective use of many scarce resources. The imbalance of medical resources is very prominent all over the world, especially during the epidemic. Take China as an example, there are about 200,000 experienced B-ultrasound doctors, mainly in big cities and hospitals. China has a population of 654.38+0.4 billion, and patients are distributed all over the country. In remote areas, even if there are medical equipment such as B-ultrasound, there is a lack of experienced doctors.
After the deployment of the 5G network, the remote B-ultrasound supported by 5G can enable experienced doctors in the city to transmit high-definition B-ultrasound images in real time through the 5G network, guide local doctors to operate B-ultrasound equipment, and provide timely examination and diagnosis services for local patients. This is a great change in the medical service mode of B-ultrasound. In the traditional mode of the past, doctors, patients and equipment need to be completed in one place. Thanks to the 5G network, they can now do it in different places thousands of miles apart. This model has greatly alleviated the contradiction between the imbalance and shortage of medical resources.
Digital technologies such as 5G are like catalysts, which make remote auscultation and remote CT adopted by more and more hospitals. Supporting 5G medical services enables more people in remote areas to enjoy high-quality medical services equally.
The epidemic "closed the door" and innovation "opened the window"
The global isolation caused by the epidemic continues. Although we had to "close the door" in the face of the epidemic, it also opened a "window of innovation and cooperation" for us. We are entering the post-epidemic era. Huawei hopes to promote the digital transformation of thousands of industries through continuous innovation and open cooperation with customers and partners, making life better, business smarter and society more inclusive.
