Circular Plaza

The Circular Plaza of New Asia College is a semi-circular open plaza for students to relax and organize activities.

There are two walls in the square. The walls are divided into old and new parts, the one on the stairs is the old wall and the one behind the stage is the new wall. The names of past graduates are engraved on the wall as a memorial.

There are quite a few student activities held in the circular plaza of New Asia College, including the 1,000-person banquet party and the night congee party of the Chinese Martial Arts Association. Many alumni have left their footprints on this square.

On the other side of the old wall is the Freedom Forum, where students can express their personal opinions freely. The plaza is an attraction for the College and CUHK, and attracts a large number of graduates to take graduation photos every year.

The New Asia Water Tower

The New Asia Water Tower is an important symbol of the College. The 120-foot tall tower is located next to the circular plaza and can be seen from both Tai Po Road and the highway along the waterfront.

The tower's simple and harmonious lines are in keeping with its functional interior. The tower's shape is in the shape of a "T", with the horizontal top divided into a straight line design, unlike the curved line design of the Union Water Tower. The water tank at the top of the tower stores salt and fresh water, which is used for drinking and flushing toilets in all departments of the academy. Inside the tower, there are steps leading up to the top of the tower, from which you can have a panoramic view of the CU campus. The door of the tower is locked for a long time to avoid danger. When there are celebrations, the College will also hang publicity strips on the outside wall of the tower to publicize the event.

Statue of Confucius

To inspire students' interest in Chinese culture, New Asia College invited Mr. Wenlou, a renowned artist, to sculpt a statue of Confucius in 1998 and set it up on the campus of New Asia College.

The statue of Confucius was cast in the Mainland and is made of copper. The statue of Confucius faces the north - Qufu, the hometown of Confucius in Shandong Province. Behind the bronze statue is a bamboo branch on which is written Confucius' teaching philosophy: "Never tire of learning, never tire of teaching."

There are two herbal medicine gardens at Xinya Academy***, one to the right of the statue of Confucius and the other in the grassy area behind the Qian Mu Library. The herbal garden here grows herbs for herbal tea. You can see the words "Herbal Garden: Herbal Tea Plants" written on the stone next to the garden.

Campus Clock Tower

The Xinya Campus Clock Tower is located in front of the Zhixing Building and Xuesi Building of the student dormitories to provide students with a reference of time. The clock tower is designed with the idea of the circle of heaven and the circle of earth, which expresses the idea of the unity of heaven and mankind. The base of the clock is square and integrated with the round top. The clock tower is supported by a square broken down into two equal triangular columns, which expresses the spirit of Xinya as stated in the lyrics of the Xinya College song, "A thousand pounds of burden is carried on two shoulders". The clock tower was the winner of the open competition and was designed by a student from the Department of Architecture.

The clock tower is about six meters high, and the clock*** has four faces, which plays a verse of Xinya's school song after the hourly chime. There is lighting at night, and from time to time students from the dormitory gather under the clock or have sugar water meetings.

The Unity Pavilion

The Unity Pavilion, which the former Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kim Yiu-kee, described as "the second most beautiful sight in Hong Kong", is situated between the Xue Si Building and the Zhi Xing Building of the student dormitories of the New Asia College. The pavilion was built to commemorate Mr. Qian Mu, the founder of New Asia College, and his book "The Unity of Heaven and Man". The Unity of Heaven and Humankind is the core concept of Confucianism, which means that the human way and the heavenly way are connected and not separated. The location of the pavilion is skillfully chosen, "a pool of clear water, two trees and a half embrace, non-traditional gardens, there are modern strokes." The pond in front of the pavilion can create the effect of colorful water and sky, expressing the idea of the unity of heaven and mankind. Pavilion outside the wall of the engraved Mr. Qian Mu's "unity of mankind and heaven" and "unity of mankind" seal, respectively, the Department of Fine Arts, Professor Li Runhuan and Professor Tang Jinteng's work.
