History of Jiangxi Provincial People's Hospital

Qing Guangxu 23 years (1897), the United States Christian Methodist Church in Nanchang set up a temporary clinic for the U.S. doctor of medicine, physician Kang Cheng, is the predecessor of the Jiangxi Provincial People's Hospital. 1903, the Methodist Church in Nanchang City, Deshengmen outside the Globe Street, No. 8 (now the Patriotic Road, No. 92), purchased land and built a 4.5 square meters of simple clinic. At that time, there were only traditional Chinese doctors in Nanchang, and they used western medical techniques that were different from traditional Chinese medical treatments to diagnose and treat patients, and achieved remarkable results, which were very popular in Nanchang.

In 1908, the clinic was expanded to include an outpatient department, an inpatient department, and was named Nanchang Methodist Hospital (also known as Nanchang Hospital), which was the only Western medical hospital in Nanchang at that time.  In 1929, five-story inpatient building was officially completed, a modern Nanchang Hospital has taken shape, can carry out a certain degree of difficulty in surgery, and is known for its expertise in the treatment of tuberculosis.1937 the outbreak of the war of resistance against Japan, the normal medical order suffered serious disruption.1942 U.S.-Japanese declared war on the hospital was forced to close until the end of the war in 1945 to reopen.  Jiangxi Provincial People's Hospital in the early stage of construction, small scale, fewer staff, outpatient, inpatient, internal medicine, surgery, diagnosis and treatment, nursing care is not divided. From the establishment of the hospital to the liberation of more than half a century, due to frequent wars, hospital development is difficult. Data show that until 1949, the hospital has only 110 beds, 73 employees, 8 clinical departments, 5 medical departments, the annual outpatient capacity of only 3,000; medical equipment is even less, the hospital has only a value of 20,000 yuan X-ray machine.  In 1949, the founding of the new China opened a new era for the development of the hospital, and the hospital ushered in unprecedented opportunities for development. The scale of the hospital continued to expand, set up a specialized medical management institutions, equipped with full-time management personnel, revised the job responsibility system for all types of personnel, the establishment of medical technology operating procedures, in the hospital formed a rigorous, serious attitude and medical style of work among the medical staff.  In 1951, the hospital attached to the provincial medical college was incorporated. At that time, the strength of the hospital has been unprecedentedly strong, with internal medicine Cheng Chongshi, Surgery Hu Xianshang, Obstetrics and Gynecology Yang Xuezhi, Pediatrics Gu Yulin, ENT Deng Zecai, dermatology Liu Maohol and a large number of nationally renowned professors, becoming the province's medical care, scientific research and teaching centers. 50's, the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Pediatrics have moved out of the formation of the Jiangxi Provincial Maternity and Child Health Center and the Children's Hospital of Jiangxi Province; Surgery, Pentacameral Medicine and Dentistry In 1966, under the impact of the Cultural Revolution, a large number of medical personnel were sent down to the grass-roots level to work in rural areas, and the work of the hospital again suffered serious damage.  After the Third Plenary Session of the Eleventh Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, the reform and opening up of the favorable situation of the hospital has made great progress in the work of the hospital, the hospital was renamed Jiangxi Hospital. A number of major discipline leaders to take up hospital leadership positions, hardware and facilities continue to improve, has completed more than 10 construction projects, to carry out a large number of high-precision, sophisticated and difficult technology, numerous scientific research results, training a large number of medical professionals, and the development of disciplines, and increasingly specialized provincial-level general hospitals. 1990, the hospital was formally named the People's Hospital of Jiangxi Province.
