Modeling tutorial for handmade dna

Required materials: different colors of square handmade paper, scissors, large rolls of transparent tape, markers, pencils, small rulers, etc.

Specific steps:

① the production of deoxyribose:

preparation of a square of blue paper, folded in half three times in a row, and cut it into small strips of paper, the use of folding the stars folding method will be folded into the deoxyribose, and make a few more.

2 Phosphoric acid

Take another square of blue paper and cut it into "phosphoric acid", which is slightly smaller than deoxyribose.

③Bases

As shown in the figure, make four bases, from left to right are A, T, G, C. The number of A is equal to the number of T, the number of G is equal to the number of C. A is complementary to T, A and T. The exact value is up to you, but it should be the same as the number of T. The number of G is equal to the number of C. The number of A and T is complementary, and the number of T is complementary. Set your own values, but match the deoxyribose and phosphate sizes (the values in the diagram are for reference only)

4 Assembly

Assemble the 4 deoxyribonucleotides as shown in the diagram. Start by gluing up one side with a large roll of clear tape, then draw the chemical bonds with a marker, and finish by gluing up the other side with a large roll of clear tape.

The base pairs are made according to the principle of complementary base pairing and then assembled according to the principle of reverse parallelism of phosphate and deoxyribose.

Finally the DNA double helix model is complete.
