Summer Ice
In ancient times, when there were no refrigerators, people used ice banks to store ice and snow every winter. The next summer, they took the snow and ice out of the freezer and put it in the living room, which became the "freezer". The snow and ice continued to melt, giving off a chill that was as effective as today's air conditioners.

The Kangxi Emperor's Summer Resort in Chengde
The Chengde Summer Resort, also known as the Chengde Divorce Palace or the Jehol Palace, is located at No. 6 Shanzhuang East Road, Shuangqiao District, Chengde City, Hebei Province. Chengde summer resort covers an area of 5.64 million square meters, mainly divided into the palace area and garden area (lake, plains, mountains) two parts. The site selection and overall design are based on topographical features, relying entirely on the natural terrain, and conforming to nature because of the mountains. It is a creative masterpiece, combining the ancient Chinese art of gardening and architecture.
In December 1994, Chengde Summer Resort and its neighboring temples were listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
In 2007, Chengde Summer Resort was named National AAAAA Scenic and Historic Interest Area.
