Shanghai tops the list with a monthly minimum wage of 2,590 yuan
According to the Minimum Wage Regulations, the minimum wage standard generally takes the form of a monthly minimum wage standard and an hourly minimum wage standard. The monthly minimum wage standard applies to workers in full-time employment, while the hourly minimum wage standard applies to workers in part-time employment.
From the monthly minimum wage standard, Shanghai's monthly minimum wage standard reaches 2,590 yuan, the highest in the country.
And Shanghai's monthly minimum wage also has a higher "gold content" because it excludes social insurance premiums and housing provident funds paid by individual workers in accordance with the law, which are paid separately by the employer.
Beijing's hourly minimum wage is the highest
Beijing's hourly minimum wage is the highest in the country at 25.3 yuan.
Besides Beijing, the hourly minimum wage in Shanghai (23 yuan), Tianjin (22.6 yuan), Guangdong (22.2 yuan), Jiangsu (22 yuan), Zhejiang (22 yuan), Shandong (21 yuan), Sichuan (22 yuan), Chongqing (21 yuan), Fujian (21 yuan), Inner Mongolia (20.8 yuan), and Anhui (20 yuan) is at 20 yuan and above.
What is the impact of the minimum wage increase?
According to the Minimum Wage Regulations, in the case of workers providing normal labor, the wages payable to workers by the employer shall not be less than the local minimum wage standard after excluding the following items: wages for extended working hours; allowances for special working environments and conditions, such as mid-shift, night-shift, high-temperature, low-temperature, down-hole and poisonous/hazardous conditions; and workers' welfare benefits stipulated by the laws, regulations and the state. Welfare benefits, etc.
Thus, the increase in the minimum wage standard will help to increase the income of workers, especially for low-income workers, the wage level has a direct pulling effect.
In addition, unemployment insurance benefits linked to the minimum wage, sick pay during the medical period, wages during the probationary period, and the basic living expenses of workers in the event of a work stoppage or closure of an organization will also go up with the rise in the minimum wage.
Su Hai Nan, a special researcher at the China Labor Society, said the minimum wage adjustment should deal with the balance between protecting the rights and interests of employees' minimum labor remuneration and the affordability of enterprises, both to meet the need to protect low-income workers and their dependents in their basic lives, but also to ensure that enterprises can withstand the increase in labor costs pushed by the rise in the minimum wage and to achieve sustainable development, which should be grasped to a good degree of coordination and balance. The two have to grasp a good degree of mutual coordination and balance.
