The £251 million building designed by BFLS Architects will house the world's most powerful laser equipment. This project has been approved by the European Commission. This laser device will pave the way for breakthroughs in cancer treatment.
BFLS Architects has an office in Prague. It has won an international competition to design the infrastructure for laser equipment in the Czech Republic.
Ian Bogle, project director at BFLS Architects, said: "This is great news. It is a rare opportunity for us to design one of the most important scientific research facilities in Europe. . It’s both an honor and a very exciting challenge.”
The main part of the project is a huge “concrete box” the size of a football field. It is topped by a removable lightweight roof.
This project will be constructed in Dolni Brezany near the Czech capital and is expected to be put into use in 2015. Its laser technology is expected to lead to major breakthroughs in the medical field and nuclear physics.
