The Department of Rehabilitation Medicine of Guizhou Medical University is the earliest established and largest rehabilitation medicine department in Guizhou Province, integrating medical treatment, teaching, scientific research and training. Honorary titles of our department: director unit of Guizhou Province Rehabilitation Medical Quality Control Center, Guizhou Province Rehabilitation Therapist Training Base, National Health and Planning Commission Rehabilitation Medicine Specialty Standardized Physician Training Base, the first and only professional master's degree-granting unit of "Rehabilitation Medicine and Physiotherapy" in Guizhou Province, and the first and only undergraduate degree-granting unit of "Rehabilitation Therapeutics" in Guizhou Province. For many years, the department has been organizing provincial and domestic academic conferences, special lectures and continuing education training courses, and since 2012, it has organized four consecutive "Technical Training Courses for Rehabilitation Therapists in Guizhou Province". The department has undertaken 2 national projects, including 1 project under the 11th Five-Year Plan, 1 project under the 12th Five-Year Plan, 1 project under the Provincial Science and Technology Department, 1 project under the Provincial Health and Planning Commission, 1 project under the Municipal Health and Planning Commission, and 1 project under the Municipal Science and Technology Bureau. The department has published more than 40 papers in core journals and 1 SCI paper, edited 2 monographs and participated in 5 monographs. Our department has the most complete, highly educated and qualified multi-member rehabilitation team in the province, including rehabilitation physicians, rehabilitation therapists (including physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, rehabilitation engineers), and rehabilitation nursing staff.
Our department carries out early and comprehensive rehabilitation throughout the hospital, and sub-specialty rehabilitation, including: (1) rehabilitation for sports and bone and joint diseases, neurological rehabilitation, spinal cord rehabilitation, and cardiopulmonary rehabilitation. Our department has extensive clinical experience in the rehabilitation of spinal cord injury (paraplegia, quadriplegia), stroke (hemiplegia), severe craniocerebral trauma (hemiplegia), multiple injuries, hand trauma, post arthroplasty, limb and spinal fracture, peripheral nerve injuries, cerebral palsy, dysphagia, dysphasia, cognitive disorders, neurogenic bladder/rectal rehabilitation, neck-shoulder-lumbar-leg pain, burns, osteoarthritis, and frozen shoulder, among other diseases. Our department also carries out local botulinum toxin injection to treat dystonia of limbs and trunk caused by neuropathy, facial muscle spasm, blepharospasm, and strabismus, and carries out minimally invasive radiofrequency ablation to treat nevus of the eyelid margins, nevus pigmentosus, freckle, blepharoplasty, and axillary odor. The Prosthetics and Orthotics Center of our department is the first of its kind in the province, which can make braces for patients with bone fracture, tendon and ligament injury, peripheral nerve injury, paraplegia, quadriplegia, scoliosis, etc., and carry out rehabilitation training before and after the wearing of prostheses and braces. Our department has comprehensive and perfect various physical factor therapy equipments, in addition, we also have such as Prokin Balance Assessment and Training System, Weight Loss Gait Training System, German ISOMED Isometric Assessment and Speed Training System, Gait Analysis Training System, Surface Electromyography Detection, Intelligent Gait Assessment and Training System, Lower Limb Motor Control Training System, Cardiorespiratory Function Assessment and Training System, Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy, DMS therapeutic instrument, Wellengang sit rhythmic therapeutic instrument and other domestic and foreign advanced rehabilitation evaluation and treatment equipment. The department is the first in the province to set up a rehabilitation specialized nursing unit to carry out spinal cord injury rehabilitation nursing, stroke rehabilitation nursing, traumatic brain injury rehabilitation nursing, limb fracture rehabilitation nursing, neck, shoulder, lumbar and leg pain rehabilitation nursing, neurogenic bladder nursing, neurogenic rectal nursing, stoma nursing, pressure ulcer nursing, etc. The department is also the first to set up a rehabilitation specialized nursing unit to carry out inpatient discharge planning. Our department carries out inpatient discharge planning services, conducts regular telephone and home follow-ups, and provides rehabilitation exercise guidance and home modification suggestions for discharged patients.
