How to place a double j-tube

Double J catheter placement technique:

Direct placement method. For double J catheters with lateral holes on one side. Insert the guidewire along the end hole into the catheter to straighten it, and the booster catheter is placed through the cystoscope to a predetermined length and then the booster catheter is fixed and the guidewire is withdrawn.

Guidewire guidance method. It is suitable for double-J catheters with side holes at both ends. The guidewire is inserted into the end-hole ureteral catheter, and after the ureter is inserted into the renal pelvis with the guidewire via cystoscopy, the ureteral catheter is withdrawn, the guidewire is retained, and then the double-J catheter is pushed in along the guidewire.

Transurethral ureteroscopic placement.

This method can be used when retrograde transcystoscopic catheterization fails or when a stone street is formed after ESWL that requires placement of a double-J catheter for internal drainage.
