When it comes to the strongest school of anesthesiology, the first thing that comes to my mind is Xuzhou Medical University. After all, most hospitals have anesthesiology department heads who graduated from Xuzhou Medical University.
The School of Anesthesiology at Xuzhou Medical University was established in 2006, formerly known as the Department of Anesthesiology at Xuzhou Medical College, which was the first department of anesthesiology established in China in 1987. With the consent of the State Education Commission, the College started to offer the anesthesiology major (undergraduate) on a trial basis in 1986, and enrolled students in the same year. After a long period of practice and summarization, the college created the first set of textbooks for the specialty of anesthesiology (undergraduate) in China; edited the first textbook of Anesthesiology for the specialty of Clinical Medicine in China; cultivated a group of excellent teaching team of anesthesiology, and constructed the anesthesiology education system with Chinese characteristics, which makes the college as a flag of anesthesiology education in China, and is regarded as the cradle of anesthesiology talents in China.
The discipline of anesthesiology in Xuzhou Medical College is a national key discipline construction cultivation point, a key discipline of Jiangsu Provincial Government, a key discipline of Jiangsu Province in the Tenth Five-Year Plan and the Eleventh Five-Year Plan, a key discipline of Jiangsu Provincial Anesthesia Clinical Medical Center, a key discipline of Jiangsu Provincial Science and Technology Project, and a key discipline of Jiangsu Provincial Medical Science Project. It is also the key discipline of Jiangsu Provincial Anesthesia Clinical Medical Center, Jiangsu Provincial Science and Technology Project, Jiangsu Provincial Medical Key Discipline and Jiangsu Provincial Key Clinical Specialty. The college has sufficient scientific research platforms, among which the clinical medical and technical research platforms include 40 operating rooms with modern configuration, 40 pain and 30 ICU beds, Jiangsu Anesthesia Clinical Medical Center, Jiangsu Science and Technology Health Project Key Discipline, Jiangsu Medical Key Discipline and Jiangsu Key Clinical Specialty; the scientific research platforms include Jiangsu Anesthesiology Key Laboratory, Jiangsu Institute of Anesthesiology, Jiangsu Anesthesia and Analgesia Research Institute, Jiangsu Anesthesia and Analgesia Key Discipline, Jiangsu Anesthesia and Analgesia Research Institute, Jiangsu Anesthesia and Analgesia Key Discipline, Jiangsu Anesthesia and Analgesia Research Institute and Jiangsu Anesthesiology Research Institute. Scientific research platforms include Jiangsu Key Laboratory of Anesthesiology, Jiangsu Institute of Anesthesiology Medicine and Jiangsu Key Laboratory of Anesthesia and Analgesia Application Technology. At present, the laboratory is a national key laboratory construction site, and has built the largest scale (4500 square meters), the most investment in equipment (about more than 40 million yuan), advanced technology platform, and high degree of openness of the key laboratory of anesthesiology in the same specialty in China.
