Is there any question of land tenure when buying a house in Hong Kong?
Private land on Hong Kong Island and part of the Kowloon Peninsula (land south of Boundary Street) is legally titled in perpetuity, while land north of Boundary Street on the Kowloon Peninsula is titled for 99 years from 1898. That is to say, the period will expire in 1997, but during the Sino-British negotiations back then, an agreement was reached that all private land titles after 1997 would be automatically extended to 2047. In other words, there is no time limit for private land in Hong Kong.
