The Airborne Strike Battalion usually carries out very important tactical missions, basically by helicopter, flying at ultra-low altitude to the enemy's important target area, and then forcibly airborne combat. It consists of three airborne strike companies and one mortar company. Each company has three airborne strike platoons, one mortar platoon, one grenade launcher squad, one anti-tank squad and one anti-aircraft missile squad.
In addition, the 34th Mobil Division has a communications battalion, a medical battalion, a transportation battalion, a chemical defense battalion, a repair battalion, an artillery command and reconnaissance company and a traffic guard company.
Operational Capabilities
Mobility: just from the above figures, the Russian 34th Mobilized Division is very well integrated and has considerable operational capabilities. The whole division itself has a variety of combat vehicles and transport vehicles 2878, 24 helicopters of various types, with strong ground and three-dimensional mobility, daytime ground maneuver speed of 30 kilometers per hour, 25 kilometers per hour at night. Under non-combat conditions, it can maneuver up to 400 kilometers a day and night, and about 150 kilometers a day and night under combat conditions. All of the division's armored vehicles have amphibious mobility and are capable of overcoming water obstacles to conduct mobile operations. The division's helicopter brigade has a maneuver radius of 250 kilometers. The division's helicopter brigade is equipped with 12 Mi-17 helicopters, which are capable of maneuvering at least one reinforced infantry company at a time, and two reinforced companies at a time if the Mi-24's transport capability is added. Its air maneuvering speed can reach 200 km/h, which is 3-4 times faster than the maneuvering speed of its tanks and mechanical units, and can be used with the division to conduct company-scale air assault operations and airborne operations.
Firepower includes (1) suppressive fire: the division has three ****-equipped 2S3 self-propelled grenade battalions (48 guns), and one battalion equipped with BM-21 rockets (18 units). The three self-propelled grenade battalions can provide nuclear and non-nuclear artillery fire support to the division in a variety of meteorological and terrain conditions. The three self-propelled grenade battalions can fire nearly 300 rounds per minute using a concentrated fire method to suppress and destroy enemy infantry, armored targets, and artillery batteries up to 30 kilometers in depth. The BM-21 MLRT battalion's suppressive effectiveness is equivalent to that of one field artillery battalion of 24 152-mm howitzers, with a maximum range of 35 kilometers, capable of providing the division with the ability to provide suppressive support to the division up to 35 kilometers. With a maximum destructive range of 35 kilometers, the BM-21 MLRS Battalion is capable of providing the division with instantaneous and intense suppressive fire over a large area; a single salvo of rockets can suppress an area of 60,000 square meters. As the division's artillery is fully tracked and self-propelled, it is highly mobile and able to move firing positions quickly, thus enabling it to conduct fire attacks on enemy targets at greater depths. The division's newly equipped Artillery Tactical Command System can handle 500 fire missions per hour.
(2) Anti-tank Fire: Anti-tank fire within the 34th Mobilized Division formation consists of two components. The first is airborne anti-tank fire. Division within the establishment of the Mi-24 attack helicopters for six, according to the Russian army on the use of helicopters point of view, attack helicopters to adopt a concentrated attack mode, can effectively combat 100 km depth of the enemy armored groups. When the attack helicopters are used in a continuous attack mode, they can attack 96 armored targets at a time, deducting a 10 per cent battle loss rate, and then, with a 70 per cent probability of destruction, they can destroy more than 60 armored targets at a time. In addition, the division's formation of 12 Mi-17 helicopters, after improving each can also be mounted anti-tank missiles, rockets, also has a strong anti-tank capability, the situation requires can also be used for anti-tank.
The second is the ground anti-tank firepower. The 34th Mobil Division's ground anti-tank firepower is mainly composed of anti-tank firepower from tank regiments, Mobil regiments and artillery regiments. The 34th MOB Division's three MOB regiments **** equipped with 294 BMP-2 infantry fighting vehicles, BMP-2 vehicles equipped with 294 sets of "Arch Shoulder" long-range anti-tank missiles. The missiles have a long range, high hit accuracy and high armor-breaking power. Deduct 30% of the battle loss rate; then 70% of the probability of destruction, with the ability to attack 200 armored targets at a time.
The tank regiment's 94 T-72B main battle tanks themselves have extremely strong anti-tank capabilities, 94 125-mm tank guns using depleted uranium/tungsten alloy armor-piercing rounds can effectively destroy enemy armored targets within 3 kilometers. With the use of gun-launched missiles, they can attack armored targets up to 4 kilometers away. The artillery regiment's 152mm self-propelled howitzers are believed to be capable of firing Red Earth laser-guided shells that can accurately attack enemy tank clusters within 15 km. the BM-21 rocket battalion, equipped with anti-armor submunitions, can attack 400 armored targets within 30 km with a single volley.
INTELLIGENCE RESEARCH CAPABILITY: The 34th Mobilized Division's primary intelligence and electronic warfare forces are the responsibility of the formed reconnaissance battalion, as well as the aerial reconnaissance squadron.
The main intelligence and electronic warfare equipment is six small Mi reconnaissance helicopters, six ground reconnaissance radars, and 22 pieces (sets) of electronic warfare equipment. The reconnaissance battalion, using long-range technical reconnaissance and means and unmanned reconnaissance aircraft systems, can conduct direct reconnaissance and surveillance of the enemy within a range of 100 kilometers and can send long-range ground reconnaissance to a depth of 200-300 kilometers. The division can send as many as 50-100 reconnaissance units in attack and 100-180 reconnaissance units in defense.
The electronic equipment of the aerial reconnaissance squadron is mainly based on helicopters as a platform, which detects and receives wide frequency bands, long distances, and high precision. 6 reconnaissance helicopters are capable of independently carrying out deep reconnaissance missions, and can carry out rapid aerial reconnaissance and identify and locate enemy deployments and C3I facilities throughout the division's operational territory and the territory of concern (i.e., 100 kilometers forward from its own front line). The division has a ground radio technical reconnaissance range of 400 kilometers and a helicopter air reconnaissance range of 150 kilometers. The helicopters are equipped with millimeter-wave radar, low-light television, infrared forward-looking radar, laser detection systems, and optical photographic reconnaissance devices to search for targets day and night, providing the division with uninterrupted aerial reconnaissance, surveillance, and target search capabilities and utilizing the newly equipped Airborne Intelligence Exchange System (AIES), Joint Tactical Intelligence Distribution System (JTIDS) equipped to the division, single-channel ground and airborne data classified communications systems equipped to battalions and companies, and the Positioning Reporting System for rapid processing of acquired intelligence.
And the independent reconnaissance company under the division's artillery has a moving target locating radar, artillery locating radar*** with the same search to identify and locate a variety of enemy targets, guiding the firepower to accurately attack.

Six FM radio stations may be provided to the division to expand the division's operational activities and intelligence network, and limited motorcycle communications may be provided to the division headquarters with units under the division.
Because the hypothetical enemy has the world's number one air power in the world, the building of ground-based air defenses has always been taken very seriously, both during the former Soviet Union and in present-day Russia. The 34th Mobil Division has a very strong mobile air defense force, which is manifested in three ways:
1 Surface Air Missile Regiment: 504 troops, 20 SA-11 (NATO designation) mobile medium-range air defense missiles, and 21 SA-14 close-range air defense missiles. These two types of air defense systems constitute the primary air defense of the 34th Motorized Infantry Division. In addition, the division was equipped with 180 man-portable air defense missiles (MANPADS) of the SA-17 type and 16 self-propelled air defense guns of the ZSU-23-4 type. Such a ground-based air defense force even exceeds the level of air defense of some Western army groups. Russia plans to replace the SA-11, SA-14 and ZSU-23-4 with the more advanced SA-17 medium-range air defense system, SA-15 Doyle short-range air defense system and Tunguska artillery close-in defense system in the near future.
The division's BMP-2 infantry fighting vehicles have a 30mm anti-aircraft machine gun, the T-72B tanks are equipped with 12.7mm anti-aircraft machine guns, and the BTR-80 wheeled fighting vehicles have a 14.5mm heavy machine gun mounted on a single turret. The armored vehicles of the four regiments have nearly 400 anti-aircraft weapons, and the T-72B tanks can also fire laser-guided shells and also attack low-altitude targets such as helicopters, giving these anti-aircraft equipment some defense capability against incoming enemy aircraft and helicopters at low altitude.
The division's chemical defense battalion is capable of completing the division's nuclear, biological and chemical reconnaissance, decontamination and smoke generation missions. The division's 12 equipment decontamination stations are capable of decontaminating 48 tactical vehicles in one hour. The division's company-level detachments are equipped with complete sets of equipment for detecting and preventing contamination by toxic agents, and all of the division's main battle tanks and infantry fighting vehicles are equipped with a perfect three-protection system, so that the crews do not have to wear protective suits in order to operate continuously under nuclear, biological and chemical conditions.
The division's engineering battalion, relying on its own strength, can complete the division's combat engineering support, mobility and counter-mobility tasks, and quickly construct and maintain the division's main combat roads, blocking positions and crossing the main access roads and bridges within the combat area. The division's attack bridging detachment is capable of rapidly erecting three 60-ton pontoon bridges over a 150-meter river span, and one engineer company can construct 10,000 meters of anti-tank trenches in 24 hours.
The 34th Mobilized Division is equipped with a variety of night-vision systems. All of the division's main battle tanks, self-propelled artillery, combat vehicles and helicopters are equipped with night detection and targeting systems. Thanks to its strong night-fighting capabilities, the Russian army believes that armored mechanized units can carry out high-speed assaults in continuous day and night operations, and that the best time to attack is at night.
The division's transport battalion has 200 transport vehicles of various types that can transport 1,000 tons of fuel at a time. Its motor transport company could provide 78 trucks and trailers ranging from 5 to 22.5 tons per day, carrying 602 tons at a time. With 12 trucks with 60-ton trailers, the company could transport 345 tons of war materiel and 12 medium tanks at a time. The Supply and Service Company is capable of receiving, temporarily storing, and distributing 25 tons of Type I supplies (sustenance), 32.71 tons of Type II supplies (clothing, personal gear), 6 tons of Type III supplies (fuel), 15 tons of Type IV supplies (engineering and construction materials), and transferring 86 tons of ammunition per day from the Military Transportation Depot to the supported units for the division. Three water supply points are provided within the division support area, capable of storing 20,000 gallons of water and transporting 0.7 million gallons of water back and forth twice a day. The company operates three field water supply stations capable of supplying more than 40 cubic meters of water to troops each day and night.
The Division Repair Battalion is capable of providing intermediate level repairs and maintenance on a variety of equipment throughout the division. The Missile Support Company under the Repair Battalion can provide field maintenance for the division's close-range air defense missile systems, anti-tank missiles, and multiple-launch rocket systems.
The Divisional Medical Battalion is capable of providing divisional sanitation logistic support by providing reception and treatment facilities for all types of sick and wounded evacuated from the division rear defense area and from brigade regional health companies. Provides 120 sets of placement equipment for sick and wounded not requiring hospitalization and who can be returned to duty within 96 hours. May provide guard support for detachment surgeries within the division support area. During the Chechen war, the division's logistical support units implemented effective follow-up security.
Overall combat capability
Offensive combat capability: The 34th Mobilitary Division has a frontage of up to 15 kilometers when acting as an attacker in the main direction, and up to 25 kilometers when acting as an auxiliary attacker in the secondary direction, in the formations of the Russian Army. The width of the division's breakthrough area was 4 km against a prepared defense, and 7 km against a hastily defended enemy. The depth of the attack can be more than 50 kilometers, and can destroy an enemy armored battalion or machine regiment at a time.
Defensive capability: In theory, the 34th Mobilitary Division can defend a 20-40 km frontage and 40-50 km depth within the formation of the army, and resist the attack of an enemy heavy armored division. It can delay and crush the offensive operations of an enemy group by holding strongholds, maneuvering for defense, and using airborne assault battalions to delay and crush the offensive operations of an enemy group by surprise attacks and ground ambushes. The 34th Mobility Division also serves as a general reserve in the defense, using its rapid mobility and strong armored assault power to conduct counter-assaults against enemy wedges in the defense.
