Many people argue that traditional Chinese medicine does not conduct double-blind experiments and statistical analysis of treatment effects on the grounds that traditional Chinese medicine emphasizes dialectical treatment and that each person's condition is different. Traditional Western medicine also had similar doctrines such as the humors and the four elements, but these have been abandoned in recent centuries. Modern medicine (Western medicine, as it is popularly known) actually treats the causes of disease. That's why the phrase "Western medicine (modern medicine) treats the symptoms, Chinese medicine treats the root cause", which is so popular among health food sellers, deserves some scrutiny.
