Biomedical Engineering Thesis

Abstract: Biomedical engineering, is a synthesis of engineering, physics, biology, medicine and other disciplines, to prevent and treat diseases, safeguard the human body's health as the main purpose of the emerging disciplines. Biomedical engineering is committed to research and development of new biological products and biological materials to improve medical technology, and occupies an important position in the field of modern medicine. This paper will trace the development history of biomedical engineering discipline in China, put forward some problems in the development process, and provide some feasible strategies to solve these problems.

Keywords: biomedical engineering; disciplinary development; disciplinary construction

The rapid development of electronics, optoelectronics, computer technology, physics, chemistry, precision instrumentation manufacturing and other science and technology has produced a great impetus to modern medicine, and biomedical engineering is a new type of medical sub-discipline produced under the background of these technologies. Biomedical engineering uses modern engineering technology to study the human body, analyze the mechanism of disease, so as to formulate effective therapeutic measures, which greatly improves the therapeutic level of modern medicine. However, our country in the construction and development of biomedical engineering discipline in the process, but also encountered some problems, must be solved to these problems, in order to promote the development of biomedical engineering discipline.

1 The development history of biomedical engineering

The history of biomedical engineering can be traced back to the 1950s, originating in the United States. As soon as this discipline arose, it was quickly recognized by countries around the world. In 1965, the International Federation for Medical and Biological Engineering was established, which was later renamed the International Association for Biomedical Engineering [1]. The reason why biomedical engineering has been emphasized by countries all over the world is that it has a broad application prospect and can produce great economic and social benefits. Biomedical engineering connects the technical achievements of modern science with medicine, which greatly improves the level of prevention and treatment of diseases in human body. Advanced countries in Europe and America have set up research departments for this discipline in the early 1970s, responsible for the development and construction of biomedical engineering. China's biomedical engineering started relatively late, and the scope of application is relatively narrow, limited to the hospital equipment storage and maintenance, procurement of medical supplies and other aspects of the construction of biomedical engineering disciplines there is a lot of room for improvement.

2 China's biomedical engineering problems

China's biomedical engineering in the construction of the discipline started relatively late, the application is also at the primary level. The reasons for this situation mainly come from the following 2 aspects. First, the historical legacy of institutional problems. At all levels of hospitals in China, the departments responsible for biomedical engineering do not have a unified name or a clear scope of responsibilities, and hospitals at all levels set the names, scope of responsibilities, staffing, and affiliation of the relevant departments according to their own understanding of the situation, which is very arbitrary. In some hospitals, the biomedical engineering department is only responsible for the procurement of medical equipment and materials and the maintenance of medical equipment, while in other hospitals, the similar department is not only responsible for the procurement of medical equipment and materials, but also for the procurement of daily necessities; in some hospitals, the biomedical engineering department is managed by the medical office, while in other hospitals, it is included in the management scope of the logistic support office. This confusion in the construction of the discipline greatly hinders the 'development of biomedical engineering, leading to prejudice and failure to realize the importance of biomedical engineering. Secondly, the problem of staffing. When many hospitals in China set up the relevant departments of biomedical engineering, they employed some professional maintenance personnel such as electricians and clampers in order to facilitate the maintenance of medical equipment. However, with the development of modern medical technology, medical equipment is becoming more and more sophisticated, and the level of these maintenance personnel has been far from meeting the needs of biomedical engineering. If the hospital is not able to strengthen the training of staff, to establish a solid theoretical knowledge, strong practical ability, able to standardize the application of modern medical technology of the talent team, will lead to redundancy, many people with insufficient professional ability to occupy the post, the real talent is difficult to be introduced, can not play a contributing role in the development of biomedical engineering.

3 China's biomedical engineering development strategy

3.1 Clearly define the scope of responsibility of biomedical engineering

In some countries where biomedical engineering is developed, health care, nursing, and medical engineering have become the three main aspects of hospital development, and these three sectors **** the same constitutes the technology of the modern medicine system [2]. In our country, the status of medical engineering is far from reaching the point of parity with medical and nursing, the scope of application is still relatively narrow, and the role of medical engineering has not been given full play. In order to change this status quo, China's hospitals must adjust their concepts, strengthen the construction and management of biomedical engineering, and clearly delineate the scope of work of the medical engineering department, which is not only responsible for the procurement, installation, repair and maintenance of medical equipment, but also to do the following work. First, the safety performance of medical equipment debugging. For example, at present, most of the advanced medical equipment utilized in China's hospitals rely on foreign imports. However, hospitals in the introduction of equipment, often only focus on the technical level and price of equipment, ignoring the plug of medical equipment. Since the plug standards of medical equipment at home and abroad are different, ignoring the plug issue can easily lead to the introduction of advanced medical equipment that cost a lot of money can not be applied in the country. In addition, there are the issues of safety level control of medical equipment and mutual interference between equipment, which are all the work of the medical engineering department. Secondly, the maintenance of medical equipment. The maintenance of medical equipment includes both static maintenance and dongtai maintenance. Static maintenance is the establishment of medical equipment maintenance system, the storage environment of the equipment to tidy up; and dynamic maintenance is based on the use of equipment, consumption, failure of real-time maintenance, such as checking the operating conditions of the equipment, timely troubleshooting and repair, replacement of serious damage to the components and so on.

3.2 Improve the management system of medical equipment

Many large hospitals in China have a variety of advanced medical equipment, and the total amount of fixed assets can even reach millions, tens of millions. However, these hospitals, there is a **** the same problem: only pay attention to the procurement of medical equipment, but ignored the management of medical equipment, medical equipment management system is not perfect, it is difficult to play the maximum performance of medical equipment, resulting in medical equipment idle or damaged. In this regard, China's hospitals should actively improve the management system of medical equipment in order to maximize the performance of medical equipment. For example, all the hospital's medical equipment centralized management, rather than medical equipment belonging to various departments, in various departments need to use the equipment when the lease. Through this way, it can effectively avoid the idle condition of medical equipment, and facilitate the unified repair and maintenance of medical equipment.

3.3 Strengthen the professional training efforts

Biomedical engineering has a very high content of science and technology, and many high-tech scientific and technological achievements have a close connection. Therefore, the practitioners of biomedical engineering should also have a high scientific quality, in the possession of due medical theory knowledge at the same time, but also to be able to a variety of advanced medical equipment for the correct, standardized operation, the development of the patient's health status analysis report [3]. In order to meet the development needs of biomedical engineering, hospitals must strengthen the construction of the talent team and focus on cultivating biomedical engineering professionals. Hospitals should cooperate with major universities to establish a mechanism for the introduction of talent, while strengthening the training of internal staff, the development of incentive systems to improve the enthusiasm of employees to learn.

4 Conclusion

Biomedical engineering has a role in promoting the development and progress of modern medicine, and hospitals at all levels in our country should clearly delineate the scope of work of the medical engineering department, improve the status of the medical engineering department, improve the management system of medical equipment, and strengthen the cultivation of professional talents to promote the construction and development of biomedical engineering.
