Shanghai Yuqiao Domestic Waste Power Plant is the first large-scale modern domestic waste power plant in China with a daily processing capacity of over 1000 tons, which is scientifically called waste incineration treatment plant. The factory covers an area of 80,000 square meters with a total investment of 670 million yuan. It has three incinerators and two 8,500 kW steam turbine-generator sets, which can handle the domestic garbage generated by 1.20- 1.5 million urban residents every day. Yuqiao Domestic Waste Power Plant, as one of the major projects in Pudong New Area, reflects Pudong's achievements in environmental protection in recent years. The power plant adopts the technical equipment provided by Alstom France, and was put into trial production with the approval of Shanghai Environmental Protection Bureau on September 20, 2002. It burns 1000- 1 100 tons of garbage every day and generates 300,000-350,000 kwh of electricity. According to experts from China Urban Environmental Sanitation Association, this power plant is equivalent to a Boeing 747 in cost and technology.
There is a multifunctional model exhibition hall in the power plant, which can be visited. The hall is equipped with an automatic demonstration process model and a scaled-down factory model. Through the demonstration of the model, visitors will witness the magical process of turning waste into treasure in modern high technology.
