Relations between Malaysia and Madagascar

I. Review of Bilateral Political Relations

Since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Malaysia on November 6, 1972, the friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries have developed smoothly.

The main leaders of the Chinese side who visited Malaysia are: Vice Premier Ji Pengfei (August 1980), State Councilor Song Ping (June 1985), President Li Xiannian (March 1986), Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress Chen Muhua (June 1990), Vice Premier and Foreign Minister Qian Qichen (January 1994), Vice Premier Jiang Chunyun ( March 1997), Vice President Hu Jintao (January 1999), State Councilor Wu Yi (January 2000), State Councilor and Secretary General of the State Council Wang Zhongyu (March 2001), Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress Xu Jialu (June 2001), Minister of Foreign Affairs Li Zhaoxing (January 2005), and Vice Premier of the State Council Huang Ju (November 2005), and Secretary of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection Wu Guanzheng (November 2005), and Secretary of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection Wu Guanzheng (June 2006) Commission for Discipline Inspection Secretary Wu Guanzheng (September 2006), among others.

II. Bilateral Economic and Trade Relations and Economic and Technical Cooperation

Since the establishment of diplomatic relations, China-Malaysia economic and trade relations and economic and technical cooperation have progressed smoothly. The two countries have signed an agreement on economic and technical cooperation, an agreement on the promotion and mutual protection of investment and an agreement on the establishment of a mixed economic and trade commission. China has been providing various kinds of assistance to Malaysia since 1972, and has so far built projects such as the Mulundawa Sugar Factory, the Pharmaceutical Factory, the Ang-Wa Highway and the Antananarivo Stadium for Malaysia. China-Malaysia mutually beneficial cooperation began in 1985, at present, the main Chinese companies carrying out engineering contracting in Malaysia are China-Malaysia Gong*** Engineering Company, Anhui Hua'an Construction and Trading Company Limited, China Complete Equipment Company, etc., and the main projects completed are asphalt concrete pavement of the second section of the National Highway No. 4 and No. 33, the refinery of Mulundawa Sugar Factory, the National Highway No. 3 and No. 7, etc. China and Malaysia signed a trade agreement in 1974, and the volume of bilateral trade was 2.4689 tons in 2006, and the value of the bilateral trade was 2.5 million tons. In 2006, bilateral trade amounted to 246.89 million U.S. dollars, a year-on-year increase of 25.6%, of which I exported 222.57 million U.S. dollars, imports of 24.32 million U.S. dollars.

From January to June 2007, bilateral trade amounted to 171.76 million U.S. dollars, a year-on-year increase of 25.7%, of which the Chinese side of the export of 162.87 million U.S. dollars, imports of 8.89 million U.S. dollars.

III. Exchanges and Cooperation in Culture, Education, Health and Military

The two countries signed the Agreement on Cultural Cooperation between the Government of the People's Republic of China and the Government of the Democratic Republic of Madagascar in 1980. Since 1973, China has been providing scholarships to Madagascar, and there are currently 11 students from Madagascar studying in China.

In 1974, the two countries signed the Protocol on the Dispatch of Medical Teams to Madagascar by the Government of the People's Republic of China and the Government of the Democratic***** States of Madagascar.

In August 1975, China began to dispatch medical teams to Madagascar, and there are now four medical centers in support of Madagascar with a total of 30 medical personnel.

China-Malaysia military cooperation began in 1975. in 1983 and 1993, Deputy Chief of General Staff He Zhengwen and Chief of General Staff Zhang Wannian met with Colonel Rasolo Malala, Secretary General of the Ministry of Defense of the People's Republic of China (PRC), and Brigadier General Paulo, Chief of General Staff of the People's Army of the PRC (PAPP), who were on their way to Beijing after visiting the DPRK. in 1998, Lieutenant General Liang Guanglie, Commander of the Shenyang Military Command (SAMC), visited Malaysia, and the Vice-Chief of Staff of the Malaysian Army (MMA) came to study in China. In 1999, the Minister of the Armed Forces of Ma Major General Ranjwa visited China. 2005, the Deputy Director of the Foreign Affairs Office of the Ministry of Defense Ding attacked the visit to Ma, the Minister of Defense of Ma Major General Behajana visited China.
