SONCAP certification is a mandatory certification of the Nigerian state, products exported to Nigeria must have SONCAP certification to clear customs.
According to the latest circular issued, all products and goods imported into Nigeria are classified as SONCAP regulated products, except those regulated by the Nigerian Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC). In addition to the products controlled by NAFDAC, the following products are not subject to SONCAP control, including:
1. Food products;
2. Drugs;
3. Medicals other than equipment and machines;
4. Medicals other than equipment and machines;
4. Chemicals used as raw materials;
5 . Military ware and equipment;
6. Aviation related products;
7. Industrial Machinery for manufacturing Used products other than automobiles;
9. Components of bicycles, motorcycles and motor vehicles supplied to legitimate manufacturers or assembly plants for assembly. (CKD bicycle, motorcycle, automobiles for bonafide manufacturers/assemblers)
The updated list of controlled products will take effect on September 5, 2009, in accordance with the transition period provided on the notice.
