There are two main ways to get to Namtso from Lhasa. One is to charter a car from Lhasa City. The most effective way is to Places such as Balangxue, Jiri, and Ya Hotel posted notes about sharing accommodations with fellow travelers. In this way, the people in the car and the driver will come to the door on their own. Chartering a car for a two-day round trip costs about 200 yuan per person.
The second is to go to Damxung first, and then charter a bus there. The price is 500 yuan for a day trip and 600 yuan for an overnight trip (100 yuan per person). It is more convenient to go from Lhasa to Damxung, and the bus fare is dozens of yuan. That's enough. Another way is to charter a car on the way back to Namtso. You must make an agreement with the driver in advance
If you rush from Lhasa to Namtso early in the morning, you can return on the same day. However, due to the beautiful starry sky and early morning in Namtso, many travelers will choose to spend the night in Namtso. There will be some tent hotels or cabins on the Tashi Peninsula that are specially rented to overnight tourists. Of course, the conditions will not be very good. If it’s peak season, either rush there early to rent a room, or prepare enough outdoor equipment to camp outside.
There are also small hotels on the Tashi Peninsula, but the conditions are not very good. If you want to transfer to the lake, you must prepare sufficient living supplies, especially water. In addition, Namtso is a saltwater lake, but the lake water can be drunk after being filtered or boiled
You need to do a lot of homework before going and bring enough supplies. If you plan to go to Namtso without resting for a week in Lhasa, you may easily suffer from altitude sickness. There is a large temperature difference between day and night in Namtso, and the wind is strong at night, with heavy rain or hail often occurring. You should also wear a thick down jacket at night in summer.
I wish you a happy journey!
