What's the difference between low-temperature plasma electrotome and ordinary high-frequency electrotome?

1, different classifications

Plasma knife is a surgical tool, which can simultaneously cut and cauterize tissue with a small high-temperature jet on the surface of tissue, and in some cases can seal blood vessels with a diameter of 3 mm.

High-frequency electrotome (high-frequency surgical instrument) is an electrosurgical instrument that replaces mechanical scalpel for tissue cutting.

2. The cutting principle is different.

There is a DC arc at the tip of the plasma knife. When the working gas (argon or helium, or the mixture of these two gases) passes through the arc, it is converted from electric energy to heat energy, which ionizes the gas and raises the temperature.

When the high-frequency and high-voltage current generated by the high-frequency electrotome flows through the tissue with high impedance, it will generate heat in the tissue, leading to tissue gasification or solidification. When using electrosurgery, the resistance varies from 100 ohm to 2000 ohm.

3. Different functions

The effect of plasma knife on tissue is similar to that of carbon dioxide laser knife, which can cut and cauterize. Laser uses electromagnetic energy in the infrared wavelength range, while plasma knife uses high temperature air jet.

Because high-frequency electrotome can cut and coagulate blood at the same time, it is widely used in surgery where mechanical scalpel is difficult to enter and implement.

Extended data:

According to the functions and uses of high-frequency surgical instruments, they can be roughly divided into the following categories:

1. Multifunctional high-frequency electrotome: pure cutting, mixed cutting, unipolar electrocoagulation, electrocautery and bipolar electrocoagulation;

2, unipolar high-frequency electrotome: there are simple cutting, mixed cutting, unipolar electrocoagulation and electrocautery;

3. Bipolar electrocoagulation: Bipolar electrocoagulation;

4, electrocautery: unipolar electrocautery;

5. Special high-frequency generator for endoscope: pure cutting, mixed cutting and unipolar electrocoagulation;

6. High-frequency argon knife: cutting with argon protection and argon arc jet solidification;

7. Multifunctional high-frequency beauty instrument: it has the functions of point coagulation, point burning and ultra-high frequency electrocautery.
