● Yu Pangnian has become the first philanthropist in mainland China to set up a private philanthropic foundation that exceeds one billion dollars.
● Yu Pengnian's new donation of 3.2 billion yuan makes him the most generous philanthropist in China for the fifth time; Huang Ruilun's new donation of 2.1 billion yuan makes him second; and Chen Fashi's new donation of 700 million yuan makes him third.

Yushu Earthquake
The Yushu earthquake is touching the hearts of every Chinese child, and at the Yushu earthquake fund-raising gala held by CCTV on April 20, a number of entrepreneurs once again lent a helping hand. The donations of the following people are eligible for inclusion in the "Jin Yong Charity List", but were not included in this year's list due to the cut-off date of April 9 for this year's list.
Regional distribution
From the distribution of the birthplaces of the listed philanthropists, Guangdong businessmen still ranked first, with 18 on the list. Zhejiang businessmen and Fujian businessmen followed, with 15 and 13 people on the list respectively. On the 2009 Jin Yong Hundred Fortune List, the largest number of businessmen are Zhejiang merchants, followed by Guangdong merchants, and there are also more Suzhou merchants in the third place, while Fujian merchants only ranked fourth. In addition, the number of philanthropists born in Hunan, Shandong, Shaanxi, Shanxi, and Gansu on the list has increased over last year.
