Institutional Development of Shanghai Center for Disease Control and Prevention

The Shanghai Center for Disease Control and Prevention (SCDC) has health testing laboratories, microbiology laboratories and toxicology laboratories, public **** health molecular biology research laboratories, and laboratories belonging to the AIDS Research Center with first-class equipment and first-class management, which provide experimental and testing bases for disease prevention and control, monitoring, scientific research and health evaluation, and undertake emergency testing and identification of the causes of public **** health emergencies. At the same time, in order to adapt to the development of preventive medicine and improve the ability to deal with public **** health emergencies, the center carries out research on experimental methods and technical reserves in related fields. The center has been approved by the measurement certification of 1047 test items, the national laboratory accreditation through the test items for 1047.

In order to continuously improve the laboratory testing capacity, the center has paid constant attention to laboratory quality management and biosafety management, and established a complete laboratory quality management system and biosafety management system.

In 2001, the center took the lead in passing the national accreditation laboratory review among the provincial-level disease prevention and control centers in China. The qualification institutions recognized by the state and authoritative organizations mainly include measurement certification laboratories, national accredited laboratories, Class A qualification for occupational hazard evaluation of construction projects of the Ministry of Health, chemical toxicity testing and appraisal institutions of the Ministry of Health, accredited units for pesticide toxicology testing of the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Agriculture, the Shanghai AIDS Detection Center, and the Shanghai Medical Accident Dispute Site Physical Inspection Institutions, etc. There are 16 such institutions.

Tracking the international scientific frontiers, formulating and updating the directions and objectives of preventive medicine research for domestic and municipal public ****health issues and issuing corresponding guideline documents; organizing, implementing and researching programs, and managing and evaluating them; providing domestic and international medical research information and dynamics, formulating all kinds of health standards and technical specifications, and carrying out professional consultation and training; establishing internal and external cooperation and exchanges, develop and utilize public **** health resources.
